He was UFA after 2027.

His cap hit will go up 6-10M per.

Dallas can get out after 2028.

Jets on the hook for 9M cap hit in 2026.

He had years left on his existing contract . Things don’t usually get contentious until a player is going into his last year and wants to get the next bag before an injury or performance dropoff happens

I’m all for getting it done early, but this should have been done in the spring when they did Bland and when they restructured Dak, Clark, Smith and a few others.

Meanwhile. We have our teams only all-pro with no contract playing on the tag and some fans are still hating on him

I would guess they’ve been talking before the OSA trade.

It’s really just an additional season after 2027. He was gonna be UFA then.

They can get out of 2029, 2030.
