I think they're simply putting it on Sean Lee to stay healthy. I fully expect that they will have a backup plan and player ready if and when Lee gets hurt. But to me they're simply saying at this point "stay on the field, don't get hurt". And if he manages to stay healthy? Great! As you said, one of the best linebacking trios in the entire league. But if he does? There will be a plan so it doesn't kill the team.
Agreed. Having Sean Lee on the field is a win across the board for the defense. His knowledge and leadership are valuable— and his level of play is still high when healthy.
As a bonus— If Jaylon or LVE gets hurt— Sean becomes an elite replacement piece to keep things consistent and the execution level high at the more important LB positions in this scheme.
I think we have a solid and deep unit beyond the starters as well. Joe Thomas has looked capable when healthy, March-Lillard is a key STs piece, and Covington should take some steps fwd as well.
