The article’s correct about Jerry’s age and that he doesn’t want to go through another cycle of missed opportunity. However, he also doesn’t want to EVER have to admit he was wrong about Jason Garrett as HC and, as he closes in on 80yo, he certainly doesn’t want to start over again with a new HC, staff and system. As long as Jerry’s reasonably involved in football opps, it’ll take a Wade Phillips-level meltdown before Jerry dumps JG.

As far as Stephen’s impatience, IMHO, out of respect for his father, he’ll tolerate Garrett (barring inexcusable disaster) until Jerry decisively hands the reins over to him. After that, if he’s still here (likely), Garrett will no longer have his “Jerry safety net.”

Finally, as long as the Cowboys remain the bellwether cash-cow of the NFL (not to mention, the most valuable team-sports franchise on the planet), and as long as the stands stay full and the merch keeps flying off the shelves (both are virtually guaranteed), the fans’ impatience really won’t be much of a factor in the Jones’ decision making.

Dear boy! We do not need to fight for mediocrity. We have mastered it and honed it to a fine instrument of 8-8 seasons, picking 18 in the draft, being mediocre, picking 19 in the draft, playing with mediocrity, moving down in the draft to 25, being mediocre, picking 20 and so on.
Then, every June our fans say they are excited for the coming year.

Tons? They won't be in the same situation as they have been, but it is not like they will be dripping with cap room and go on a spending spree. They are far more likely to play the long game thinking they have to save up for Prescott, Elliott, etc

As a Cowboys fan, I hope this “no more looking to next year” is real, but then I come to the stark reality that the Jones family have become very comfortable with mediocrity. They are going to make a billion in cash next year even if they go 2-14. The Jones family is apparently as comfortable with mediocrity as they are with the generational wealth this franchise has poured into their lives.

How else do you explain the way they continue to place themselves at ground zero of coaches meetings, locker room meetings with players; basically everywhere micro-managing can be inserted into an NFL entity. And yes, they “have the right” to do that as owners. Doesn’t make it smart and it sure as Hades doesn’t make it a successful formula as the last decade and some change has proven.

The only “No more” I would like to see isn’t going to happen as long as Jerral Wayne Jones continues to fashion himself as the centerpiece to on field success. The day he stops pretending that he is a football guy is the day I will begin to believe “no more” bad habits.

I still have hope. I’ve been a fan of the Cowboys since The early 60s, so I’m no “bandwagon fan” and I’m in for the long haul. So, I hope they win despite Jerry. That’s how every year starts for me.

The bottom line is until there's a change at QB the Cowboys have no chance. Unless they can build the world's best defense but even then they'd be a longshot.
