Cowboys are Lifting the Floor not Raising Their Ceiling

Our problem has not been a blanket lack of talent, but a lack of talent in a few key areas.

We have had a lot of strong young talent, but then been completely devoid of talent in key positions like DT, RB, LB for example.

Which leads me to believe you can make a difference quickly. The problem is you have to recognize and address those issues and we've failed to do that in the past. It's the reason we can't get over the hump imo.
Among Jerry's many weaknesses, his biggest is personnel. He is absolutely incompetent at judging personnel, which includes team needs and draft picks. Who's the next straightline athlete he's going to hype up? Can anyone even explain why we were so impressed w/ Eric Scott? Reggie Robinson anyone?

If you can't turn, you can't play in the NFL. It is that simple.

Not really, fowler was a good signing, and some of the other guys may turn out to be good players.
So many signed with their own team, there wasnt much of value left.
Guys like metcalf , kupp, just are not worth what they got elsewhere.

I want to see how they do in the draft now.
9-8, here we come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you realize that the ENTIRE sports media is saying that Jerry's free agency is among the worst in the NFL?

Do you realize that the Cowboys (despite spending earlier than last season) are ranked the 28th lowest spending team in THIS FA period.

Maybe you should stop besmirching the character of the fans here when they are right about facts just because it's an inconvenient truth for you.

Rethink this praise you are lavishing on this FO because there's not a speck of evidence to support it.

BTW., I was able to communicate this message without attacking your character
Must read for everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Neither Kearse or Hooker were considered A level type FAs. They were fliers taken hoping they could get lucky. This is their model. Sign cheap guys and see if you get lucky and a couple hit. In our case, a small number hit, the vast majority just turn out to be JAGs. Hence why year after year most non-homers acknowledge our FA strategy continues to fail.

To pretend that their signing was like the Eagles signing a Saquon Barkley, for example, is kind of funny.
That is not what you were claiming. You have switched to this added complexity. You know what I think of that.

I think the Cowboys tried the old ruse of looking really busy while doing nothing to convince folks they are trying really hard.
I don’t think Jerry cares what folks think. He may try to sell you his vision but whether you buy it or not is irrelevant to him.

To me, this offseason is another example of churning the bottom of the roster using a different strategy and hoping to find a few players that stick. Jerry has shown time and again that he is not a believer in spending in FA. Like it or hate it, it is what it is.

I think Jerry’s team building strategy is simple. Find a few starters in the draft, count on improvement from existing players that needed development time, and churn the bottom of the roster in hopes of finding a few that stick.

Not what I would do but he never takes my calls.

It was exactly what I was claiming. Just because a couple of bargain bin FAs turned into a couple of nice players doesn’t change the fact they do not spend money on higher level players to fill specific holes. They have zero intention of signing any FAs from the top of most wish lists.

The fact you are trying to argue otherwise is laughable.

Most of the time no one has any idea what he's trying to argue.

Were Kearse or Hooker illegitimate? If you thought so because they were inexpensive, then that just means you're ignorant.

Now you are adding the complexity that legitimate means high cost which makes no sense.

Recategorizing it in a negative fashion that works is your obvious goal.

You didn't get what you wanted, and now you're mad. That is what that reads like.

Who cares if it works out? Right?

Kearse and Hooker were bargain bin signings. Neither was a highly sought after FA. Hooker wasn’t signed until like June or July that year. The fact they got lucky doesn’t change the reality neither was considered a prime FA.

They do not sign prime FA. Stop being obtuse.

At this point, I'll take any attempts at improvement. Something, anything.....just try to get better

Again you said:

Kearse came in and solved a problem immediately.
Hooker came in and solved a problem immediately.

You are trying to pretend that legitimate means expensive now and it somehow magically fixes your position. Again.

I am not going to argue about the expense angle as I never have to this point.

If your position is legitimate = expensive then say it and then we can adjust but until you do I am not buying the bait and switch.

They had their best seasons when they would wait until week 4 or when comp picks are no longer a consideration to doing what they have done in week 1.

This is lifting the floor as opposed to raising the ceiling but in an attrition league that is hugely important. LB and RB injuries and roster neglect at those positions were particularly bad for us last year. We are unlikely to have it that bad again.

They still have plenty of issues all over the offense's starting group. OG takes a step back. OT is a trainwreck. Skill position outside of Lamb is devoid of playmakers.

We have 1 starting DT and questionable backups. We have issues at range at S. Hooker is one of my favorite players but he is losing his step. Cover 3 is going to be that much more demanding.

We have a ways to go. Way I see it we need guys like Mazi, Schoon, and Guyton to play up to their draft status and players come back strong from injury and 2+ draft picks hit at positions of need and these FA be able to improve special teams and injury replacements and the team take to the new coach strong in year 1.

Then we might compete with the Chiefs, Eagles and Lions in the playoffs.
I don't disagree with a single word you said. But that's asking for a great deal; a miracle.
