His situation is different because he got hurt. And we know he was rushed back too soon.
So was Pollard allegedly. Is there any player the Cowboys didn't rush back?, because they all seem to get a 1 season Mulligan even though they are medically cleared

Not new news. It might finally be official today.

There really isn't anyone to tag.
I think the light has finally dawned on Jerry and Co that the team isn't close to being what it needs to be in order to compete for a title. Definitely not in the class of the 49-ers and KC. The gap against teams like GB is only going to get wider. The only teams they will consistently beat are in the NFC East and even that is on a short enough timespan - especially if Washington, Giants and Eagles can rebuild and field better teams with better QB and defensive play.

It’s easy to hate on Steele.

That injury was freakish.

He had a slow start, but to be fair, he graded out really well. In fact, it was his best season, grade wise.

Why does everything have to be “hate?”

It’s not that. He just isn’t that good and never was. They just want to believe he is as they think it shows what great football people they are for taking a UDFA to a large contract.

A guy like him was serviceable and should have played out his rookie deal and been moved on from ideally.

At a minimum there was no reason to yet again hand someone a big contract coming off a major injury when there’s a throwaway season basically guaranteed to follow.

No. Proven history of doing that.
Part of the culture here.

When they speak of culture it's not just one thing. It's pretty much opposite of how the Patriots did things during their dynasty.....it's a players paradise here.

Yup, it's more like surrendering than negotiating
It's actually more like not having to commit to a long term deal while retaining the services of a player one more year. It worked great with Schultz because it gave Ferguson a year to develop before handing the reins over.

Would you rather the Cowboys have given Schultz a 3 year high dollar deal? What about Pollard?

I would also argue that using the franchise tag IS negotiating if with a player they actually want to do a long term deal with. It gives the team leverage on a player who may be trying to hard trade because the team still has the hammer of keeping the player even if they can't reach a deal.
