They were asked this question a few years back or so. Probably gets asked every year.

The answer.
You do not set your draft to what other teams do in FA or the draft. You draft to help your team get better. Then if you do it right, it does not matter what the other teams does.
Basically don't draft to counter another teams pick.

You dont draft to counter what the other teams in your division are doing

you draft based on need.....some fans wanted to draft a lineman because oh jeeezeee Philly got Carter?

ok? we have 6 starting calibur offensive linemen) if peters is coming back) we can draft one next year our like is good

we NEEDED Mazi....

There really is no defense in the draft unless you are stupid enough to trade up to prevent an opponent from getting a player they want. Do the best with your own picks and then play the games. The Eagles success in the draft is from accumulating multiple first round picks including some early ones. But there are no guarantees about any players. I am actually a little surprised the went defense with both of their 1st round picks.

At the same time, the Eagles did assemble a really good roster last year. They clearly value DL a lot.

btw, I am not completely sold on Nolan Smith. I think he dropped for legitimate reasons. He may be a classic tweener. He could still be a decent player but he could also be a misfit in the NFL. Like every draftee we will have to wait and see.

I'm not worried about the Eagles either. The media's crowned them after 1 good season where we still split two competitive games with them.

They blew their Super Bowl, lost some players and had to pay Jalen Hurts. No guarantee at all they'll be back.

Hurts isn't as good as his contract says he is. He had a good team around him, a tricky scheme based on a mobile QB and dependent on a great O-line to make it work. He's average in the pocket. 1-2 against the Cowboys. His lone win coming from a competitive game with Cooper Rush on the other side. The Boys beat him comfortably with Dak and a backup Andy Dalton.

He's pretty good. He's better than we tend to give him credit for. He's also consistent under pressure.

You do understand that Jalen hurts will not be expensive for a few years. They are like 42 million under the cap next Year - with a couple restructures they can get to 80 million under easily … they are not a perfect team, but if they trade for Budda, then maybe they will be lol. If you love a challenge, 2023 will be interesting.

Whats MM going to say when asked a stupid question? Disparage his pick? Praise his division rival?

I also admit that the Eagles widened the gap in the division last night. Carter was one of four elite players in this draft (him, Anderson, Bijan, Bryce in that order). Nolan Smith also tremendous value and will be in a terrific situation in Philly.
I disagree, they did not widen the gap.
This is once again fan over reaction from the draft.

Eagles lost far more this off season than they gained...on paper of course, we need to see it on the field.

Dallas has not really lost anything but has gained. Figure that Quinn's back, Moore is gone. Made 2 very good trades, and brought back key pieces in the defense.
Eagles lost both OC & DC, 5 starters on defense. Their RB and 2 OL though one was a backup.
Yes they have some young talented players. But do these 2 draft picks make up for what they lost? I am not buying it at this point.

Whenever l think about how good another teams draft is/was, l just think back to all those years Washington won the Superbowl (on paper) after their "great" drafts.

With the salary cap nowadays, especially the impact of the QB salary, nothing is sustainable for long term. What the Patriots did will never be replicated again...
