The Dallas Cowboys have brought in former Stephen F. Austin running back Gus Johnson for a tryout during the team's minicamp.
The running back was the 2014 SLC Player of the Year and a four-time All-American for the Lumberjacks out of the Southland Conference in Texas. At his pro day in April, Johnson ran a 4.62 40-yard dash. But at 5-10, 224 lbs., Jonhson's game is built on power.
For SFA, Johnson rushed for a total of 3,892 yards and 51 touchdowns in his four-year career. He also piled up 57 receptions for 419 yards and one receiving touchdown. Check out some of his highlights in the video feature embedded below.

He looks so slow. And the defenders chasing him somehow look slower. Its like those highlights were slightly in slow motion. lol.

Just a kid getting a chance to try out, nothing more.

True it's just a kid getting his shot

But I digress,

What's obvious, with not drafting a RB, giving Felix Jones a try out & now this, the FO is FAR more concerned about the RB situation then they claim to be, so, I can only deduce that although it's still early, as pre-season approaches & the tick of the clock gets louder & louder we should be just this side of the panic button because the "Committee" part of "RBBC" is not the Committee they were hoping it would shape up to be.

Wait, how does not drafting a Rb, not signing Jones or Ben Tate and then bringing in this dude indicate the front office is far more concerned with the RB situation than they've been letting on? It would seem to me that not drafting anybody and not bringing in vets with a realistic chance at getting any game reps at all would be a sign that they really aren't all that concerned about the RB group. Or do you think Gus Johnson is going to bump somebody off the roster?

Not sure I see where you're going with this, but I'm pretty sure I disagree wholeheartedly.

I think its you that's "far more concerned" about the RB situation. Why not wait until a couple of preseason games before sounding the alarm. IMO, this is just another roster churning situation.

I guess that you can argue that with McFadden being limited recently (he did practice yesterday and looked decent) and Williams having a knee issue, the current "committee" really just consists of Randle and Dunbar right now and they need more bodies for TC. But that's as far as I'd go.

You do realize they are bringing in players to look at at all positions, not just RB, right? So by that logic, they are far more concerned with every position than they claim to be.

I like his size and his speed is OK for a bigger back.

Dallas did this all last offseason too. This indicates nothing other than Dallas is churning the back of the 90 man roster.

IMO they havent shown their hand either way.

There isnt anything available to them that makes a difference. Tate and Green are probably the only back they have looked at with a realistic shot at meaningful carries. And thats a long shot.

I dont think they are content, but I dont think they are desperate either. If they are desperate they would have forced a trade by now. They arent willing to do that which tells me they arent desperate. But they have looked at or in Greens case linked to, a couple players that could have a role in the offense. Which tells me they arent completely content either.

They didnt add Tate and I dont think they will add Green. I believe if they make a move, it wont be for at least another month when they figure what if anything they need, and most likley 2 months when preseason is coming to a close
