It just kills the Commanders and their fans that we have two #1 picks next year and it's looking more and more like we're going to have a top 3 pick from the Browns.

I'm sure they'd love nothing better than to have one of those #1's taken away.

Just wishful thinking, IMO.

It wouldn't surprise me. Would it surprise you to learn that Parcells taught Belichik the tricks of the trade?

I hope it's not true but when you hire a wise guy like Parcells you get everything that comes with him.

Don't stop believing;)

If the Skins had any info it would have been out by now, Gibbs has always been ultra paranoid about spies.

Suspend Parcells and take the Carpenter pick away. :lmao2:

I have to second this for post of the day, I'm laughing harder than the smilie.

You guys are dead wrong on the redstinks. If Gibbs had the goods on us you know he'd take the high road.

As far as cheating goes.....if you aint cheating you're not really trying.

The history of the Commanders for almost 50 years is all about their belief in their own superiority and just can't stand Cowboys getting any recognition. They are nothing but whiners and homers who unable to properly evaluate their team. Their 70s coach (George Allen) really started this whole paranoia and hatred against the Cowboys. Part of it might have been owner Marshall's dislike of the Cowboys since he forced accept us into the NFL if he hoped retain the Commanders fight song. Of course what do you expect when they were last (or one of the last) to allow black players on their team in the 70s.

Skins fans just can't stand to see the Cowboys get any recognition for anything. They might also get annoyed at Giants & Eagles but nothing like what they feel for Cowboys. Any praise about Romo and they go ballistic (constantly refer to him as "homo") and immediately claim JC is great, etc. Of course Giant/Eagle fans feel somewhat the same. If Romo wins offensive player of the week, they'll go ballistic.

Anyway, haven't read anything on only Extremeskin forum I read re this claim nor anything in Post newspaper. And frankly I really don't think Parcells would spend the time doing anything like that. Now Belicheck is another story. And like you've all said, if they know anything about any cheating by us they'd be marching up to NY to directy confront Commish & Danny boy would be leading the way.

Gibbs take the high road. That's a laugh. This is the same coach that constantly complains about the refs calls -- of course that's only about calls that go against the Commanders and never about calls that favor the Skins.

I've NEVER heard that, and I listen to DC sportstalk every day on the way home from work.

Believe me, if the Skins thought they had the goods on us, they'd have complained loud and hard about it already.

No doubt about that! Joe Gibbs whines about every call that doesn't go their way. In fact, he sends tapes to the league office after every game of calls that he thought went against them unfairly. He is the biggest whiner in the NFL, if he had even the remotest inkling that we were doing something like that he would have been up Tags' keaster in a heartbeat.

This spying business goes way back. Nothing new.

Quote from espn:

"The late Commanders coach George Allen presided over the glory years of NFL espionage. The Cowboys used to rent out the second floor of a local hotel because it stood next to their practice facility, and they were certain Allen's spies were occupying the rooms. Cowboys safety Cliff Harris once told me players were convinced that every helicopter that flew overhead contained a Commanders spy."

They were the last team (by a long margin) to sign black players and only did so when forced by the US Government to integrate the team in 1962 with the signing of Bobby Mitchell (they drafted Ernie Davis and traded him to the Browns for Mitchell, Davis died before ever playing for the Browns).

George Halas was the master at spying on other teams. It went on all the time back in the day and continues today but not everyone is as blatant with it as the Patriots were nor does everyone break the rules by videotaping. As far as I know, there are no rules against taking notes or spying on another team's practices. If they want to station a guy in the stands to watch their coaches signal in the plays then that is OK but for the most part it would be difficult to see from there.

I was listening to a sports talk show last night in the Bay Area and they brought on Lincoln Kennedy, a regular guest who happens to be a very good and honest guy. When asked about the Patriots getting caught for spying, he started laughing and said the following things:

1. This has been going on for years. It's just too bad the Pats got caught.

2. Virtually every team does or tries to do this. If you aren't trying to do something like this, you aren't trying to win.

He did not seemed surprised in the least bit and had the "so what, everyone does it" attitude towards it. Like I said, he's always been a stand up and honest guy. I have no reason not to believe him. Just makes me sick to hear it from a former player.

He is trying to make is less severe for the Pats... but more importantly for the NFL.... taking one for the team so to speak.... nonchalantly

Perhaps, but what's his motivation? He's been out of football for a couple years now and repeatedly has said he has no interest in ever putting a uni on again. I suppose he could be some sort of coach someday, but who knows.

Either way, I don't really think it's a big deal. I like seeing a poster boy Pats get dinged like this, but I really would not be surprised in the least bit if I found like 10 or more teams had done this at least once in the last 3 years.

I was watching Monday Night Countdown and they asked Bill about it. He kinda avoided the question and said that teams should just change signals every game.

1. Even if that was true, it appears that they put rules in to stop it. But the Pats continued to do it, got caught, and now have to pay the piper.
2. How the hell would he know "virtually every team" does this? And what is "this"? Hiring a camera man to video tape the other team's signals?

Ok, I did not quote him verbatim since I was driving. It's like when people say "everyone's doing it". They do not literally mean EVERYONE is doing it. And by "it" or "this", he was referring to stealing signals.

He also added that many signals for the defense are extremely basic since they cannot be radio'd in. So most teams still use the same sort of convention --- right means even, left means odd. (whatever that means).

Players like Peyton Manning are so good at giving false signals off that it's so hard to figure out what he's calling.

Oh, here's something that made me chuckle. They mentioned Randy Moss' big 1st day and asked Kennedy if it made him sour they way things worked out (or didn't work out rather) for Moss in Oakland. He laughed and said Moss had a similar big 1st game for Oakland too, implying that it was no big deal. The then went on to call the guy a "bum" and gave his reasoning for it.
