Cowboys A ‘Long Shot’ To Sign Cooper Kupp
Cowboys A ‘Long Shot’ To Sign Cooper Kupp
Speaking for myself, I think he’s washed up.Unless he is demanding a multi year contract I'm not sure why the Cowboys would have an issue paying him into the teens this year. They have plenty of cap space and not many options left to spend it. Are they counting on needing $30M in carryover for next year? I'm actually shocked the fan base is so worried about an overpay for Kupp. I'd rather them overpay (on a 1 year deal) than just not spend any money once again.
Completely different situation if you dont like the player or think he is done. Personally I don't see it that way. 67 catches and 700+ yards over just 12 games is still very good for your #2 guy. I do think the injury risk is significant here, but I just dont see the downside for the Cowboys given their current financials....unless you just dont like him at all which I understand passing. So I followed him a bit last year. He started off with a bang and then got hurt, came back and fell off the map.
People were saying he was slow coming in and out of breaks, that he had lost a step. Maybe father time caught up, but Stafford had a history of hyper targeting Kupp and he basically ignored him the last month of the season.
Maybe he needed to heal further, maybe he got old. He wasn't ever fast to begin with.
I dont think hes worth what he is demanding and theres a strong chance he's a complete bust this year. I'd pay him 6-9ish and go from there. If they agree to more I won't be upset either.
And thats fair. If the Cowboys dont have faith in him as a player at this point they should pass. If they like him they should go get him. I just dont see a huge issue with the money unless Kupp is being extremely unreasonable and looking for $20+M again. If you view him as a reliable #2 target then they should throw $15M at him immediately. If not then he shouldnt even be on their radar.Speaking for myself, I think he’s washed up.
His numbers fell off a cliff in the second half of last season. And that’s with what I feel is a much better passer throwing to him.
Rise, we need to do everything possible to earn the No. 1 in the 2026 draft. The Boys are coming off a horrible season, Parson's act is wearing very thin with his mates and would probably welcome a trade that can earn the Boys a couple of high picks in the 2026 draft. The Boys are being picked to end up 3rd in the Eastern Division, so why not tank it in 2025 and if we don't earn the No. 1 in the 2026 draft, BUT end up with the 2nd, 3rd or 4th pick in 2026 AND the team with the No. 1 doesn't need a QB, why not trade every pick for the No. 1 and end up with ARCH MANNING! YOU IN BRO???? LOL!It's happening.
Still need speed though.
There was 7 1st WRs taken in last years draft. Only 2 would have filled our needs right now. Thats not very good odds. But hey, just draft the player, they will solve all.So you just wanna overpay him because he asks you to?
Cowboys , if they are smart, are getting our #2 WR at the top of the draft. I would be smart about signing a 32 year fa wr
Before we sign him, I would let him know that we have every intention of drafting a wide receiver high if one is there.
And this class is bad. There was 7 1st WRs taken in last years draft. Only 2 would have filled our needs right now. Thats not very good odds. But hey, just draft the player, they will solve all.
Out of our last 10 1st rd picks, we are about 50/50 with a player that stepped right in. You can not rely on the draft to fill that spot this year.
To me, it's a question of how close are we to contending this season. If we think we have legit shot, then fine. But if not, who not use this year/season as maintenance signing high-reward development players or vets with 2-3 meat left on the bone? then make a real push for 2026.Unless he is demanding a multi year contract I'm not sure why the Cowboys would have an issue paying him into the teens this year. They will make just as much money as they did last year, and the year before, and the year before.Yeah I couldn't care less about how profitable Jerry/Stephen are this year. I care infinitely more about the quality of football team the provide. At some point they are going to need to be willing to throw an extra $3-4M than they would like to at a player in free agency instead of only going after the bottom of the barrell.
It's my understanding there's quite a bit of drop-off after the top 2-3 players (WRs).There was 7 1st WRs taken in last years draft. Only 2 would have filled our needs right now. Thats not very good odds. But hey, just draft the player, they will solve all.

So you are saying he is very likely to be a bust, but yet you would still pay him 9 million? So I followed him a bit last year. He started off with a bang and then got hurt, came back and fell off the map.

I have no clue, I am not a scout, I dont watch film, and I pay ALMOST no attention to college football. But it is very clear that there is likely no WR that is getting drafted by us that can step in from day 1 and be as good as Cooper. It's my understanding there's quite a bit of drop-off after the top 2-3 players (WRs).
Law signed a 3 year 42 million dollar deal, didnt he? There was zero chance we were handing out that kind of money to him, had nothing to do with how good they think the team will be this year. You guys like to bash in Mike Fisher, but he was saying it ALL LAST SEASON, starting in MARCH that the Cowboys were not pending any money last year, werent resigning players not named Dak, Cee Dee or Parsons so they could start over this year. Letting Law walk and knowing Martin was retiring was ALWAYS in the plans. To me, it's a question of how close are we to contending this season. If we think we have legit shot, then fine. But if not, who not use this year/season as maintenance signing high-reward development players or vets with 2-3 meat left on the bone? then make a real push for 2026.
In other words, I would shy away from the one-year vet deals coz we are looking at at least two years before we can contend IMO. This is why IMO they didn't bother offering DLaw a deal.
