No not rewarding Romo with guarenteed money would be the mistake. I did't understand the benefit to the player involved. That's why I said I was "cap stupid".
I am too with regards to a lot of things. That's why I rely on Adam so much.

He says he doesn't understand the cap.... hence the "cap stupid" comment he made in reference to himself.

So I think its safe to assume that he doesn't have a problem with guaranteeing more money to Romo.....

I think its safe to assume he doesn't understand how it works.
I was trying to state it in a way that would thus make sense. I know people here do not like Crayton or Roy, so I said it in a way that would amplify their benefit.

Answer my question in post 13 and simplify it for me too!

Thanks in advance.

I believe (very possible I am wrong) that all guaranteed money is up front.

OK. So he gets it all up front, but for the sake of the cap hit, its "prorated."

Gotcha.

Thanks.

So does he get the 4 million that is "prorated" all at once, or is it literally spread over 4 years?

(if its prorated, why would he agree to it and not want the money upfront?)

he gets the money upfront like a signing bonus the team spreads it out over the life of the contract just like a signing bonus

It's just like Jerry Jones to copy Dan Snyder and restructure contracts.:laugh2:

Uh, Troy Aikman and Jerry restructured a deal before Snyder even owned the Commanders. Who's following who?

It was just a joke . . . People have been restructuring since free agency began, but I thought it was funny that after all the criticism Snyder gets here for restructuring and pushing cap hits into the future, no one seems to have a problem with Jones restructuring Romo's contract.

And for the person who wondered why the Cowboys would restructure Romo's contract before Roy's, in addition to the points made above, it is important to consider that since restructuring typically involves guaranteeing the player more money, you want to first restructure contracts of the players you have the most faith in, and that you don't envision cutting in a couple of years.

Big difference is you guys do it to get under the cap. We're already under the cap.

nobody cares about Dan Snyder, or his hatchet man Cerrato.

Skins fans constant comparing of him and jones is boring. The only thing they have in common is they are wealthy.

They both own football teams.

They both own teams in the nfc east.

They both own football teams who are amongst the most recognizable in the NFL

:)

Only difference is, one owns a good team.

I meant on a personal level, the type of people they are, how they are thought of. Its night and day.

I believe Romo will have to restructure his contract if Dallas wants to keep winning...

No, not necessarily.

The Eagles, Steelers and Pats to a lesser extent have done a magnificent job of managing the cap... not by having to constantly rework contracts, ala the Commanders, but by letting older overpriced talent leave and replacing them with younger, much less expensive players. That's what gives you the best chance of fielding a consistent winner, season after season instead of having a team that grows old together and forces you into cap hell.

Someone posted that we'd only be spending $2.1M on the draft. That is way off; actually we will probably spend between $5-6M. Don't forget we got 2 first rounders.

We have plenty of ways to create cap room, if we need more. The question is whether there's anyone out there worth spending it on.

Hey Adam, I respect your opinion alot on here and I was wondering what your thoughts were on Hamlin vs. Flo and if we did the right thing in letting Flo proably walk.

I personally dont think Flo is worth $9-$10 mill per year, but I was curious what your take is.
