Stanback Among Saturday's Cuts

The Cowboys have turned in their roster cuts to the NFL, and among the big names include wide receivers Isaiah Stanback and Jesse Holley, who scored the winning touchdown Friday night in Minnesota, and late-round draft picks DeAngelo Smith and Mike Mickens, a pair of defensive backs from the University of Cincinnati.
In all, the Cowboys released 22 players and put another on injured reserve. That actually puts the roster at 52 players. It’s likely the Cowboys will claim another player on Sunday.
Stanback, a fourth-round pick in 2007, has struggled to stay healthy and transition himself as a receiver from a quarterback in college. He has just two reception in two injury-plagued seasons.
Not on this list is rookie wide receiver Kevin Ogletree, the only undrafted player to make the team. Ogletree scored two touchdowns in the preseason, including the first of five scores by the Cowboys in Friday’s 35-31 preseason win over the Vikings.
Other so-called “bubble” guys that have made it for now include guards Cory Procter and Montrae Holland and nose tackle Junior Siavii, who hasn’t played an NFL game since 2006.
The Cowboys decided to move rookie linebacker Stephen Hodge to injured reserve. The sixth-round pick from TCU never fully recovered from a knee injury that required surgery in July. Hodge joins Robert Brewster and Brandon Williams among draft picks that will be lost for the 2009 season.
Here’s a list of the cuts and roster moves made on Saturday:
Injured Reserve:
Stephen Hodge
Waived:
Travis Bright
Courtney Brown
Rudy Carpenter
Scott Chandler
Julius Crosslin
Marcus Dixon
