I don't agree. He's a SB champion because he was on a Super Bowl-caliber team. Otherwise, fans would be talking about how he's not good enough just like the others. He's better than Dilfer, but the concept is the same: If the team is good enough, you don't have to have a great QB.

I have always thought you were an excellent poster but just did not share your views on Dak.
There are a few others I am like that with here.

This is one of your very best posts acknowledging Hurts' pivotal contribution to a SB victory over a comparison of the defense carried them Dilfer or Brad Johnson scenario.

You know how Cowboys fans are sure Joe Milton is going to develop from where he is right now to a better quarterback in the near future? Jalen Hurts is less than two years older than Milton. He’s about to turn 27. He’s smart. He’s athletic. He’s modest. He wins. (and he’s signed for $9 million per season in AAV LESS than Dak)

There are 15 fanbases that hope Hurts is only an average NFL quarterback and doesn’t get better as he enters his prime years. 16 if you include Chiefs fans.

No, I didn't. I thought he was/is a 1 yr low cost FA emergency stop gap jag.
But I was not sure if the front office was hedging their bets with him or not.
So now with the Revel pick, that kinda sealed the deal.

And year before last when he had 15 interceptions and his top receiver mad at him and Philly faltered, fans were questioning if he was the answer. Winning makes those questions go away. Even though it takes a team to win, the QB gets too much credit when it happens and too much blame when it doesn't.

Hurts 103.7 rating was the best of his career. His 68.3 QBR in 2022 was the best of his career. Dak's best rating is 105.9 in 2023 and best QBR is 77.6. The main difference between the two is the team around them.

Not exercising the 5th year does not necessarily mean the team does not want to keep a player. Ravens did not exercise the 5th year option on Linderbaum. With Humphrey signed, and Jurgens recently signed, they know what he’s going to cost to sign long term. If he played under the 5th year option in 2026 his entire compensation hits the cap for 2026.

Baltimore has a smart front office.

Right, after all, they did sign Cooper Rush to back up Lamar Jackson.
Maybe they think they have similar styles so the playbook does not need to be altered.

There are other significant differences. Dak is five years older than Hurts. Dak is recovering from another severe leg injury. Dak gets paid over 15% more than Hurts. And Dak has more guaranteed compensation than Hurts. Here’s a big difference. Jalen Hurts plays better in Super Bowls than he does in the regular season. Even though it’s the same team around him.

How he plays in Super Bowls doesn't matter if you can't get there. Eli Manning is a two-time Super Bowl-winning QB. He has never been a great QB and sometimes not even a good one, but he's had a few really good performances because his team put him in position to have those performances. Our team has generally failed its quarterbacks. If the QB doesn't play great, the team is not good enough to overcome that.

Perhaps, unlike the Cowboys, the Ravens see value in a backup quarterback that has experience preparing to start an NFL game and with experience actually starting at quarterback in NFL games.

Dak is older than Lamar Jackson. Dak is coming off a significant leg injury. Dallas’ backup quarterback has never started an NFL game. Cowboys FO is shrewd. No doubt about it.

Eli Manning's 2 SB MVPs were earned from 2 significant game impacting plays in both SBs more than his overall SB game performance.
The Tyree helmet catch in SB42 and the Manningham dime in SB46.
Manning's dline was more responsible than Manning's play.
With Hurts while his defense was dominant, his timely dimes, 3rd down conversions and 74 yards of ground game were instrumental in his team's victory.
If looking at his previous SB performance loss he absolutely balled out with exception on one turnover.
He plays big in big games.
Dak can't do that.
Period.
Even with 9 All Pros supporting him (see 2023)on offense and defense.
He has terminal playoff paranoia.
It's incurable unfortunately.
Regardless of coaching(5th playcaller) or personnel support. (see above.)

However good Eli Manning was, his best season was 2011 when he was 30 years old. And the Giants won the Super Bowl that season. Hurts won’t be 30 for another three years.

Quarterbacks that used their rushing ability to great effect, Steve Young’s best season was at age 33 (SF won the Super Bowl). Russell Wilson’s best season was at age 30. Randall Cunningham’s best season was at age 35.

Hoping Hurts and Daniels aren’t that good is just that, hope.

Cowboys can get out of Diggs' contract next year with no guaranteed money left. They can use the space gained from cutting him to help pay Bland.

And even if they keep Diggs they can still pay Bland if they want to. Cap Boy is still crying like he is poor while the team still has $35 million of cap space right now.
