Much of this is thanks to new quality additions (or welcomes back): Byron Jones has been as advertised, Corey White has been a revelation, and I'll say it now: Mo Claiborne might just end up being the best of them before all is said and done; the kid looks smooth, strong, in control and confident. Plus, he's been the only starter not to miss a practice (although he did miss the San Diego game).

Good to hear a unbiased report about Claiborne. Everyone has written him off but if i'm not mistaken this is his first true preseason and he's healthy and its a contract year. I see no reason why he doesn't have a great year.

I think he'll get every chance to do so. I think the Cowboys want Scandrick guarding slot receivers and want Claiborne and Carr on the outside.

Assuming our final roster count find us enjoying an ample supply of defensive backs, I'd be delighted. It seems like forever that the Cowboys have experienced that particular phenomenon. It would surely constitute quite a welcome change in our defensive backfield situation -- that's for sure. It seems to me like forever since we've been fortunate enough to even consider such a claim. A deep defensive secondary? Preposterous. ;)

Not only has the talent level increased in the D backfield, but more importantly, it has improved with the pass as well. The combination of the two is what has me excited about this defense.

Yeah, I kind of just presumed he would make it because of his special teams play. But there are other guys that can contribute in other areas, particularly on offense or defense, that would make it a better move to keep, perhaps.

Like, if it comes down to a ST gunner on McCray, or an extra WR as a KR/PR like Lucky Whitehead, that's a tough decision, but I would go with Lucky.

The perfect scenario is a WR or one of the other db's fill that role
Even if it was one of the young cb's that are probably going to get cut
At least they have upside
Perfect opportunity for someone to get a roster spot

I expect Jones to be the #3 CB to start the season.

Would not keep McCray if Hitchens AND McClain are unavailable 1st game.

Once McCray (a vested veteran) is on the roster for game 1, his salary is guaranteed for the year. It is not a huge amount but I don't think they will start the season with the idea of cutting him after RoMc and Hardy return from suspension.

Who stays and who goes?

Brandon Carr
Mo Claiborne
Orlando Scandrick
Byron Jones
Corey White
Tyler Patmon
*Joel Ross
*Robert Steeples
*Rod Sweeting

Likely only keep 3 safeties (Church, Wilcox, Heath) because of Jones and White's position flex but that is still too many corners, even if ALL 3 fringe players are cut.

Great to hear that the Cowboys are deep in a position. Maybe we can trade a extra CB or DL for a RB?

I think Lucky can be a difference maker returning the ball.
