I'm not happy with that stat so I found one that I could be happy with.
Points per game allowed.
The Baltimore Ravens are number #1 allowing 17.1 points per game.
The Dallas Cowboys are #2 allowing 17.6 points per game.
Suck it ...PFF....Go Cowboys:flagwave:

Actually, this is most important for any defense. Belichick calls it his number 1 priority stat and I agree. The primary goal of any D is the stop your opponent from scoring.

....and that is what our anemic offense needs, short field starts off of turnovers
We gotten short field starts and still produced field goals(or as in the case of the Washington game: miss field goals). No excuses, our offense just needs to produce. We had this (lack of)turnover problem for years and still had productive offense.

No, sbark, either it’s productivity or no productivity. There’s no scraps in my scrapbook.

If a team has an inept offense, their failure to keep the ball for long stretches means their opponents will have more drives and thus more opportunities to score. PPD rather than PPG does better to keep that offense problem out of the equation when evaluating the defense.
That, plus "points allowed" includes opponents' return TD, so it's not really even a defensive stat.

Points per drive is the most important stat for me when talking about defenses. We are #2.
That does have the strongest correlation to wins, but opponent drive success rate and defensive passer rating are also right up there. The average of all three of those would probably give a more accurate picture.

points per drive 2nd
drive success rate 4th
defensive passer rating 27th

Even by this method we're still Top 10.

like the idea a lot of Gallup, Cooper & Beasley. Now our TEs need help. They are really going to have to find a way to attack this way because Golden Tate with the Eagles has really tortured us. Having to face him twice in a year...
We will have faced Tate three times this seaaon once it’s over. Doubt we sniff the playoffs to get a 4th time.

Not shocking though I think that's a bit low but they don't generate turnovers or give the offense good field position.

Funny how that all works together. If the defense is going to truly be a strength of this team, it has to generate turnovers and it begins with pressure. You're exactly right, give the offense more short fields to work with. We really need a couple other guys to step up, especially if DLaw is warranting extra attention.

Well cheer up, the Cowboys haven’t played many good offenses and don’t get one Monday.

Applying the eyeball test to watching this D, that ranking surprises me because the scoring D is top shelf; however, their turnovers are lower than well hooch.

Won’t really know about this D until they face PHL, NO, ATL, TB and Indy could be trouble.

No way there are 17 better defenses in the league. PFF is ridiculous.

If we want to approach an elite defense staus, then the offense is going to have to start putting more points on the board.

The Defense gave up 13 points to the Commanders and we lose? The offense isn't doing the defense any favors.

I thought Tate was an expiring contract....
His contract expires this year, and Cooper's next year. Why does everyone think we are guaranteed keeping Cooper forever, yet the Eagles are only going to have Tate for these last 9 games?

Seems just a little low...Not to far off though.

such notions are why I have little respect for PFF (and fantasy football thinking) in general

#2 in PPG,
#2 in 1st/G,
#3 in Yds/Game,
#3 in Yds/Play,
#3 in passing Yds/P,
#2 in rushing yds/C,
#2 in Red Zone at 36.84% -12.50% in the last 3 games

and they aren't doing it via ToP at 21st

through 7 NFL games that's a top 5 D

I understand the alarming low number of sacks and INTs (relative to the above) impacted the PFF rank, but still ... 18th - they need a reality check
