Cowboys Defense To Face Speedy RB Slaton..

Rookie Steve Slaton will begin taking some first-team carries in the Texans' third preseason game Friday at Dallas.

Slaton is probably too undersized to ever be a full-time back, but he's the team's most explosive option and climbing the depth chart. "I think he’s earned the right to get some reps with the first group," coach Gary Kubiak said. "He played pretty darn well. He’s getting better every time we go out. He was better in protections. It’s obvious he can be a big help to us offensively."

It's the Battle of Texas.

As far as the Texans are concerned.

They'll throw Slaton and any other legitimate offensive threat at us long and often to pull out the win. That benefits Slaton directly, but does it necessary improve their offense in the short-term?

They were talking about this on the radio last night. He's outshining all the other RBs on the roster. The radio folks were saying, he should at least get a chance to play with the 1s or go against some 1s to see how he'd fare.

He has Tony Dorsett's frame, speed and moves.

I'll let the mediots define what an everydown back is.

Slaton could stabilize the Texans running back situation. That would be one less problem for their offense. If they can protect Matt Schaub in the pocket more, Houston could really make some noise in the AFC South this season.

Apparently the game last night wasn't as close as the score was made out to be. Houston's offense drove up and down the field on N.O.

Their offense actually wasn't that bad last year. I had two of their WRs on my fantasy squad.

Schabb has looked very good as of late and that is without Andre Johnson. Kevin Walters had 100 yards and a TD last night.

Houston doesn't have much either. They just signed Marcel Shipps. Talk about desperate.

What about Ahman Green & Dayne? This will be first game for me at Texas Stadium since Superbowl years. Should be great game.

Green is out for the next two weeks with a groin injury and Dayne is at the fat farm trying to lose weight. They signed Marcell Shipp today, that's pretty pathic.

They [The Texans] play in a Super Bowl every year, almost. :D

Glad to hear it. I like Slaton so I'd like to see what he can do anyway. The better the players the better the test for the Boys before the regular seasons begins.

Shipp will be gone soon just like Mike Bell was last week.... its training camp. Just need bodies right now.

And no, I could give a rats arse if the Texans actually win Friday night. All I care about is the starters looking good and improving.

Yep you're right. Green is almost always hurt. At this point he's worth "bust" consideration. I think he played one play for them this offseason and walked off lame. Dude just may not be able to play anymore.

Dayne hasn't been signed by anybody and actually had some good games last year for them. Problem with him is the same thing since he's been in the league. Inconsistent.

Right now if a back is on the waiver wire it seems he's going to Houston.

I'd roll the dice with Slaton.
