They have enough to throw together and get by for 4 games. But long term they absolutely need Gregory to be available and effective. Maybe we get lucky and add a draft who immediately contributes as well. This group will not be a team strength obviously.....

good thing BOSA is supposedly pro ready technique wise.

lawrence and bosa. We almost have to get bosa now. Or maybe mincey can start the first 4 games of the season.

Thanks to our "patient" approach, we will have zero firepower at DE again next year. Whoopdeedooooo!

I wasn't aware that the draft had passed and no DE had been drafted.

Or that Hardy had signed with anyone else yet.

Wow. The offseason must just be flying by or something.

Last off-season we were aggressive and still had zero firepower at DE. So what's your point?

Gregory suspension hurts but I think the DL could be closer then we think.

If Lawerence keeps improving not crazy to think he could improve on 8 sacks to say 10-14. It's not a given but it's not unrealistic to think.

Replacing Hayden will help everyone but should benefit Crawford the most. If he comes back stays healthy his sacks could improve from 5 to 8-11. Both aren't unrealistic projections for the players.

Between the two should have 18-25 sacks. Now this is where Gregory hurts us we need him to be replace Lawrence 2nd year production. (8 sacks)

That would be would be team sacks 26-33. Last year got 6 sacks from DBs and LBs combined. Now Team sacks is at 32-40. The backs ups had over 10 sacks (including hardy) That's a 42-50 sack defense.

I know this is assuming things go right but when you break it down per player it's pretty reasonable projection to make. Current line probably wouldn't be a 50 sack team but top three guys have enough talent to have 30 sacks between them.

That's not an unreasonable projection

Add Hardy and it can potentially thrive tbh with a real 1 tech and Lawrence/Crawford staying healthy.

Im hoping for that! But lets say lawrence isnt fully healed from his back surgery and without the double teams that hardy received get more attention. So coupled with a not 100% back and double teams he gets like 8 sacks. Crawford had his surgery as well but lets say that it was more minor ( labrum/rotator) so he gets 8. So between them they get 16

The left DE ( gregory) gets like 2 because hes still too small 235lbs and has 4 games of suspension. And thorton gets 2

So the starting D line gets 20 in total
Back ups of hayden, jack crawford, irving, and russel all chip in to give you 6 more sacks. Thats 26 total sacks

Add 6 from the dbs/ safeties and we get to 32 which will be bottom 5 in the league

Gregory for situational plays...

I've more or less written Gregory off. The team bought a lottery ticket and lost. No skin off their nose to keep him around on the off chance he turns it around, but I'd operate as if he doesn't otherwise exist.

All are valid point and one are or all of those events may happen. But that would be a worst case and not very probable just as my case for 50 sacks isn't probable. Point is some act like we have zero talent and no reason to think we can be good up front. If you look at each individual player projection and assume they will regress or not improve from the year prior then you can make any position group look bad. I'm not saying we don't need to improve just can see reasons for optimism and concerns alike.

Yeah well I can't argue, forgot to add his name to my first list...

I've pretty much done the same thing. Perhaps he will surprise us... or perhaps he will smoke himself into an early retirement. Right now, my money would be on the latter.

No real pass rush in 2015. So what do we do? We sit on our hands and pull in some "quality depth with potential". Amazing.

Have we utilized FA to at least supplement the draft by shoring up any of our current positions of need yet?
