That was our best defense this era. #1 I believe that year. Good enough to carry Quincy to the playoffs. Greatest coaching job Bill had here.

I wanna say we had one top 10 defense with Wade. Think it was 2009. But none since.

Yeah, they were ranked 9th or 10th in both 2007 and 2009.

So what is the lesson learned here? It seems to be that we need a top-tier Defense to win a Super Bowl. This is contrary to those that are saying this Offense is so good the Defense only needs to be average, as in the 12 to 16 range. If this is indeed what is needed then that's bad news for the 2021 Cowboys. IMO, this defense will be much improved but not enough to be top-tier.

Good question .

This Cap era history thus far with few exceptions illustrates you need to be great on one side of the ball and average to above average on the other side. Most champions have either had an Elite QB or defense.

So every time Dak throws an interception, fumbles the ball, or over throws a wide open receiver, we need to blame it on the defense?
Of course not. But the outcome is different than one or two plays . Did you watch the Super Bowl with Brady and Jared Goff. Worst quarterback play I’ve seen since the 70s

We definitely learned that you need not only a good offense but a good defense as well. And don’t forget special teams and coaching.

Jesus......how many times over the years we've seen where the D couldn't get off the field or allow opposing teams to march down the field right after the offense scores. IMO it's the exact reason Jason Garrett is now a former HC. 2007, 2014, and 2016 teams' success were because of offense led by Romo and Dak. For example, how we forget the Rams playoff game the D simply fell apart which Dak had one of his best games. This isn't about propping up Dak.......they are facts we ALL witness......yet some here are arguing other crap. It's why I struggle to take some of his critics seriously.

1971 they were 7th
1977 they were 8th
1992 they were 5th
1993 they were 2nd
1995 they were 3rd

Hopefully this will shut the Dak haters up but it won't. Can't wait to see the excuses coming.

Hard to win a SB without a top 10 defense

Again...... they were in the super bowl. Why is it so hard for that part to sink in?

Did you watch the super bowl with Dak? Oh snap, it hasn't happened.

Rushing stats can be skewed as well. For instance if we were controlling time of possession and getting off to early leads often our opponent would abort the running game needing to pass to catch up. Similar to what we had to do last year when falling behind early in games.

Yep, thats why you need to use a bunch of them together.

Believe what you will but it’s how we have ranked defenses . Including this era with Seattle, Denver, Baltimore and all of the great defenses.

It doesn’t mean it’s perfect but if we believe those were great defenses then it is what it is.

In most cases if they weren’t giving up much in yards they probably weren’t in points either since the basis of the yards measurement is it translates to more or less opportunities to score.

Scoring can be skewed with points off of turnovers and special teams scoring.

Why do you keep telling me its what has been used?

LOL.....who was the head coach????? Just asking.......
Just showing that after Wade was HC, there, in fact, WERE a few top 10 defenses.
As you already know, Garrett was HC

Sorry, but wasn’t sure what the LOL was for…..unless you were laughing WITH me due to how easy it was was disprove that post.

It’s how we have ranked all of the great defenses to date.

Total yards translates to more opportunities to score.

Scoring is skewed by offensive turnovers for points and special teams points.

Again, all of these great defenses even this era have been ranked by total yards.

So which is the better defense?

The one that gives up 360 yards a game but gives up 24 points a game or the one that gives up 410 yards per game but locks down in the red zone and hold teams to 18 points a game?

That’s a subjective scenario. We’d have to let it play out for a season to see .

There’s always going to be situations which go against the norm.

Man the biggest annoyance is people ranking defense by yards…I know it’s what most rankings do but man it’s amazing that points and turnovers don’t make a great defense but yards does lol.

Stop with this BS. All of our players have been overly criticized by a portion of the fan base while simultaneously being overly protected by another portion of it. It's not just Dak.

I don't know. I haven't heard much criticism at all for Jake McQuaide, nor much praise. I think you're lying to us.
