Value means a lot when you consider the Cowboys.
They're a Tampa 2 defense, but they're looking to play more man coverage. They're also in the nickel page more often than not.
What do a few of these things mean as it relates to value?
CB3 gets more snaps than LB3.
This means that CB3 on the depth chart is more valuable and important than LB3, which is the SAM.
If Claiborne is healthy and Carr and Scandrick get their deals worked out, I think you could see Jones play free safety, and Wilcox supplant Church at SS (Maybe not immediately). I think that is what they're looking for in terms of playing the best 5.
What also still needs to be understood is that when we go to the nickel the nose tackle comes off the field. Even being a "two down player", if you're playing predominantly the pass say in the 4th quarter or 2nd quarter, or for whatever reason you have 3 wide receivers which pushes you to the nickel, you probably have this guy coming off the field.
Here you probably see Crawford slide over, and a defensive end comes in whether it be Lawrence or Hardy or Mincey. I could envision us having 3 defensive ends on the line in a lot of situations, and potentially a 4th playing linebacker in passing situations.
This means that DE3 is more valuable than DT2
