He is a favorite of jimmy Johnson.

You can make the case he runs this offense better than Garrett.

He supposedly gets under people's skin and grinds on them though.

Perhaps Linehan's grinding on people and getting under their skin would ultimately serve us well to counteract what Jimmy Johnson referred to as the Cowboys organization's "country club atmosphere."

Im starting to warm up to this idea for a few reasons

- Lineham and Garret share the same philosophy which should make game planning and adjustments much easier..I don't think it was fair or smart for Bill Callahan to call plays for an offence that was so different than what he traditionally runs.

- I, however, loved the zone running scheme and overall O-line improvement that Bill brings to the team and hopefully he can stay on as OLine coach/running coordinator

- And my favourite reason, this is a Garret move which shows that he isn't the puppet that people are making him out to be

If this is a Garrett move then what was Callahan's moving to play caller a year ago? Also a Garrett move?

And Rob Ryan and Kiffin? Garrett moves?

He's either not the final say on things or he's just incredibly indecisive and impulsive when it comes to making coaching changes. I honestly can't decide what would be worse, Jason getting overruled or Jason being so in over his head and not really sure what to do that he's actually switching a play caller every offseason.

You gotta laugh at anyone who thinks Garrett is making the decisions regarding who's calling plays, especially if Linehan is brought in here to be a playcaller.

He was the bigger man and delegated the play calling to Callahan. Oops, that didn't work, but he wasn't going to totally change play callers mid-season, so he just had play calls "run through him." Oops, that didn't work, let's bring in someone else to call plays even though he has no experience with this particular personnel.

Oh, and don't forget, he wanted to bring in Norv to call plays... oh Jerry doesn't want to. Ok nevermind.

Hay, I got a good idea! We can bring in Linehan to call the pass plays, and let Callahan call the run plays! Then both plays run through Garrett on the sideline, then they go to Romo, who makes the check to the best play at the line!

Is there anyone else who wants a hand in the play calling? Jerry? You wanna get first dibs on the process? How about the owner/pres/GM having a vote for which way the play will go? he can say... hmmmm, I'm feeling 60-40 run on this play fellas, then let Linehan and Callahan do their thing and we're on the way.

I have a feeling this team is heading down the path of the last ten years of Al Davis' life with the Raiders. Jerry(Al Davis) is so controlling over every aspect of the roster, coaches, scheme, etc. that whoever get's hired to be the "Head Coach" of the team is doing so without have any authority at all with the roster and player personnel. So really, the only guys you're going to have a shot at hiring and wanting to take the job are young guys who want to make a name for themselves, or retreads who have been failures as head coaches elsewhere. It's bizarre that the owner(his whole title of General Manager is a farce) is responsible for coaching decisions and not the head coach. Jason's only been here this long because he's Jerry's choir boy and yes man.

People keep comparing things to Al Davis but it won't ever get that bad. Or maybe it is depends on how you view it. Raiders were so bad they consitnently got top 10 picks. Which shouldn't be a bad thing but the guys kept missing every single year in the top 10. That's where the Raiders went wrong. Terrible drafts. Cowboys are always going to be good enough to win 8-8 or 9-7.....so they can't get the elite talent in the drafts but unlike the Raiders they actually hit on their 1st round picks.

The Dallas Cowboys are contemplating whether to hire former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan, according to ESPN.

Per the report, he would be a compromise candidate to resolve conflict between owner Jerry Jones and coach Jason Garrett.

Linehan would call the plays and have the title of passing game coordinator.

Garrett and Bill Callahan are the last two play-callers.

Jones reportedly had Callahan call the plays, usurping Garrett.

Linehan is highly regarded as a play-caller.

On board with this.

However, just another example of us doing everything we can to 'mentor' Garrett in running the offense.

Reeves, Sparano, Callahan, and now Linehan.

How many offensive coaches do we need to bring in to teach our offensive coach how to coach offense?!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Linehan is not being brought in to "teach" Garrett how to coach.

This whole situation reeks of desperation from both Jerry and Jason. Jerry is desperate to keep his protege and Jason is desperate to keep his job so they're both grasping at whatever straws they can to keep things as they are for as long as possible.

Whether this guy is an upgrade or not (I don't know enough about him to know) is beside the point. It appears that Jerry has done exactly what he wanted to do which is deflect the criticism from the media and fans by providing yet another distraction for the masses.

The real problems, however, will remain...

I dont get this team. Linehan ran an a vertical offense based around probably the strongest arm in the game. I dont see how this is going to produce anything different.
