Just curious, but out of the cowboys entire 49 year history, what years did the cowboys have their best draft class ever and what were some other years where they were pretty good too?

How about 1982:
1 Rod Hill Kentucky State
2 Jeff Rohrer Yale
3 Jim Eliopulous Wyoming
4 Brian Carpenter Michigan
4 Monty Hunter Salem
5 Phil Pozderac Notre Dame
6 Ken Hammond Vanderbilt
6 Charles Daum Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo
7 Bill Purifoy Tulsa
8 George Peoples Auburn
8 Dwight Sullivan North Carolina State
9 Joe Gary UCLA
10 Todd Eckerson North Carolina State
11 George Thompson Albany State
11 Michael Whiting Florida State
12 Rich Burtness Montana

Some real winners :laugh1:

I would say from 1989-1993.

The years after 1994 were horrible.

The post-Jimmy, pre Parcells years may have been the worst drafts of any team, ever.

Ever!

1964 was a great draft with 3 HoFers in it (Renfro, Hayes, and Staubach).

1975 was considered to be one of the greatest for any team as we got a ton of players out of it, including: HoFer Randy White, Hollywood Henderson, Burton Lawless, Bob Breunig, Pat Donovan, Mike Hegman, Herb Scott, and Scott Laidlaw.

1977 was pretty good with Dorsett, Tony Hill, and Jim Cooper. We also took QB Steve DeBerg late in that draft but cut him in preseason.

1989 was another good one with Aikman, Moose Johnston, Mark Stepnoski, & Tony Tolbert.

1991 brought us: Russell Maryland, Alvin Harper, Dixon Edwards, Erik Williams, Leon Lett & Larry Brown.

1970 was a good year with Duane Thomas, Charlie Waters, John Fitzgerald, Pat Toomay, & Mark Washington.

I agree. Just look at the 1994 draft, when it all began:

1. Shante Carver DE
2. Larry Allen (OK, that was a good one)
3. George Hegamin OT
4. DeWayne Dotson LB
5. John Davis TE
6. Darren Studstill DB
7. Toddrick McIntosh DT

Who are these people? From their names alone they sound like busts, and all 7 of them were except for Larry Allen.

Not all of them were "horrible"...some were like in 95 and 96 when they made stupid trade downs then grossly reached for guys "because they could be backups" or in the case of 96, passed on a guy they had rated as a top-15 pick (Brackens) for a get too cute trade down for Pittman and Clay Shiver. 2000 and 2001 were both pretty lousy too.

Some years guys just didnt work out. Nobody knew Shante Carver would end up an alkie. The guy was rated a late 1st/early 2nd rd pick by everybody, and did have 4 straight seasons of double digit sacks at Arizona St. Thats damn good production.

LaFleur could have been an extremely good TE in this league and maybe even a probowler, but the back injury did him in too soon.

We did draft some good players in the mid to late 90's...guys like Larry Allen, Randall Godfrey, LaFleur, Dexter Coakley, Ellis and Adams in 98, Nguyen in 99...Ekuban in 99 wasnt great but was an adequate starter

Again, booze ended up being Carver's undoing. Hegamin ended up beign a serviceable player.

Only two of those guys are not 1st or 2nd rounders - they're 3rd rounders. We couldn't draft in the later rounds at all.

Had to rephrase that.

That's why he played bad every Sunday? I didn't know he was that addicted.

Shante Carver was a ridiculous reach. We actually traded up to get him.

There's the published story of the Vikings having him rated as a 3rd rounder and many rumors that he was rated as a 2nd rounder by pretty much everyone else.

my friend was a low level scout for the 49ers (the team we traded up with). His version of the story is that when the 49ers found out who it was that the Cowboys were trading up to get, they all laughed. Nice.

He was rated by Green Bay as a 5th rounder.

Last year rocked.

Felix Jones, Jenkins, Bennett, Choice, Scandrick.:starspin

He is a JuCo College coach now. He says low level scout, I say intern.

I used to give him crap but he actually showed me a San Francisco 49er business card with his name and "Scouting Department" on it.

Obviously you didnt watch the guy play much then. He wasnt bad every Sunday.

In fact I remember him getting multiple sacks on Tony Bosselli, one of the first guys to ever do that (and maybe the only one while he was a Jaguar)

He had alot of skill, but he wasted himself.

Almost all the draft guides from then had him a 1st or 2nd rd pick.

The guy had double digit sacks 4yrs straight at a major college, he wasnt a scrub.
