Maybe I didn’t explain myself well enough. Zach Martin was a talented OT in college who would have been a little miscast as an OT in the NFL, but exactly because of his skills as a college OT, made him a great NFL guard. Maybe Tyler is not suited to be a an NFL OT because he’s not coordinated enough, or because he’s extremely raw (let’s not forget that Zach started at a power 5 school as an underclassman). But he obviously has the physical skill set to become a very good NFL OG; maybe not on Zach’s level, but still. That’s all I’m making a comparison of. And let’s not act like Tyler was a slouch at OT at Tulsa.

The point is Smith carries significantly more risk and has a much higher bust factor than the previous three who all had significantly better resumes coming out of college.

Hence why any comparison makes little sense.

Biadasz had some terrible moments, particularly against Vea and Hargrove, but he was better overall than some think. I'm not sold on him, but I'm not really down on him yet. Guard was the position that needed to be fixed the most.
No doubt guard was worse. But center was below average as well.

College resumes really don’t mean anything. Colt Brennan at one time had an illustrious, college resume.

I hope this kid does great and he seems like an enthusiastic guy with a great attitude. But two phrases we need to burn in the fiery pit are "coach him up" and "position flex".

I've seen several posters use this video as supposed proof that Tyler Smith is good. Why? What are you looking at? You're actually believing the clown who is commentating and who created the video?

Watch...

Every play,...the first 8 plays...before the video creator goes into a break to showcase his YouTube Channel, you see Tyler Smith absolutely holding and using his holds to drag his opponents down to the ground. Just flat out holding and pulling down. Every play will be called for holding in the NFL. GUARANTEED! This guy looks worse that Connor Williams. Heck, even Chaz Green didn't hold on every play on a supposed highlight reel the way this Tyler Smith has.

Colt Brennan also wasn’t nearly the caliber player Tyron Smith and Zach Martin were coming out of college. He also played at Hawaii hardly a hot bed of college talent.

The comparison to T Smith and Martin make no sense. People making them are just trying to make themselves feel more confident in what is an extremely risky pick on a very raw but talented kid.

It is what it is. He's a Cowboy, now, so I'll root like hell for the kid (unlike Taco, who I hated from the word go). Hopefully he steps in day one and kicks some arse at LG and possibly develops into s force at Tackle.

I’m not Stockholm syndroming here. Again like I’ve said on the forum before, was hoping we’d snag Jermaine or even the Purdue DE, but Tyler wasn’t a bad selection considering there were only like 18 first round graded players and we took him at 24. We got a second rounder with great upside in the second round.

He was coached by an inexperienced coach. He didn’t get proper coaching
You think Joe Philbin is better? Philbin sucks. Couldn't even coach this Oline the past 2 seasons. This is going to turn into a total disaster. Another Taco Charlton horribly overdrafted peewee league move where you prove once again you don't know what in the hell you are doing, much less owning and running an NFL team.
