Why Do We Care: Over the last nine years, eight of the Cowboys' eight top picks in the draft all visited Valley Ranch as part of the Cowboys' official pre-draft visits, with Claiborne being the one outlier. We just saw tonight this trend continue with Byron Jones joining the team. 2014 pre-draft featured visits from Zack Martin, DeMarcus Lawrence, Davon Coleman, and Ken Bishop. The Cowboys drafted 5 players in 2013 that visited with the team: Frederick, TWill, Wilcox, Webb, and Randle. 2012 was their outlier year trading away their first and second, and we remember how that turned out. In 2011 Dallas had Tyron Smith, Bruce Carter, and DeMarco Murray in for visits.
Long story short, you can use the below as a mini-big board for the rest of the draft. You would have to think based on the way the board looks and based on projections (from Walter Football) of when remaining players will go, that they'd lean hard in the 2nd round at either Defensive End or Running Back. From what we've heard from Valley Ranch "insiders" on Twitter, I'd bet DE the more likely position of the two. Running Back help seems more likely to come in the 3rd or 4th round, and I think the combination of talent available makes that the right move if that's what actually does happen.
