So I got to thinking. There is a difference in the breed of "fan" here on the site and for all teams around the world. There are "enthusiasts" and there are "fans."

Enthusiasts...

- always support their team and hope for the best, and never expect the worst.
- are able to intelligently break down the X's and O's, albeit maybe not professionally, of not only their favorite team but the week's opponent as well
- are able to objectively criticize different parts of the organization or a game
- remain calm under pressure. A rough 1st quarter doesn't always mean it's time to mail it in.
- are able to hold an intelligent conversation with an opposing enthusiast of another franchise.
- always Defend the Star. :star:

Fans...

- are the mouth-breathers; the booger-eaters that sit at home spilling Coors Light on their sweatpants whilst screaming for a challenge flag on a 1st down play
- Latch on and swing from the proverbial sack of a player one week, and are ready to string him up like wet laundry the next week...no matter who he is (some people here are actually not sure Demarcus Ware deserves a contract!?!?)
- Mail it in after a single bad play at 14:02 in the 1st. This play is usually on a 2nd and 5 or similar down and distance.
- etc....I could go on and on, but I won't. I think I got my point across.

Let me guess, you consider yourself to be in the former?

Do you feel better now? Did pointing at that other group of people and insulting them make you feel good? Did it help ease the pain of the game? Did it improve your life? Are you a better person now?

Aren't we all fans???

I guess a Cowboys enthusiasts aren't fans right???

For you to label me in your fan category is kinda funny. Because i stuck with this team through thick and thin

It seems a lot of you guys are making some assumption that I'm calling you out personally...

...and by posting things like the above, it's like you're proving it. You must be a "fan" if you're so strongly offended? I mean correct me if I'm wrong.

Fans can and are the same. It's a matter of blind loyalty no matter what versus showing emotion and asking for accountability.

I would rather not wear rose colored glasses.

The people like me that look at things realistically instead of having enthusiasm for no reason. I am offended by that you didn't create our category.

I agree that there are people who are merely enthused about their given team of interest. What I would also say is that the types of fans out there are as varied as any personalties you see in any group of people.

The problem is that some fans think you aren't a fan like them, unless you think, act, believe exactly as they do. These are the guys who complain that someone isn't a TRUE fan for this or that reason but mostly because they are being confronted with a view that is contrary to theirs.

This is asinine when applied to a diverse group of people on a forum like this. Why even log onto a forum if the varied opinions and views upset you. I don't post much but I do enjoy reading all the posts. Many of them I disagree with or I think are stupid but I'm interested in the other guys opinion because I know he wouldn't be wasting his time doing this if he wasn't a fan, albeit a diffrent type of fan than I am.

Or I may totally full of it.

Then I take it back!

Would it make more sense if I labeled the two categories "fans" and "fair-weather fans"?

I don’t eat my boogers and i drink Bud Light, so you are wrong again!

But here are my two versions of fans:

Elite Holier Than Thou Fans: “Thinks” they are the perfect fan.

Just a Fan: Invests their time/money in a team and hurts when it’s all over.

So if you expect Jerry and the clown brigade to screw things up you are not an "enthusiast" or fan? I will always expect the worst with this group of idiots in charge.

And what difference does it make? If a fan wears rose-colored glasses, do they hurt the team's chances? Does your "asking for accountability" help anything.

Two different groups with 2 different ways of seeing things.

The ones I have a problem are the ones that revel in defeat and call themselves fans...
