Cowboys to exercise 5th-year option on Zack Martin's rookie deal
Dan Wilkins Jan 24, 2017 7:34 PM
Zack Martin isn't going anywhere.

The Dallas Cowboys' standout guard, who earned a third consecutive Pro Bowl appearance to open his career this season, will have his fifth-year contract option exercised by the team, executive vice president Stephen Jones confirmed Tuesday.

"A big priority for us is to keep Zack around," Jones said, according to Brandon George of The Dallas Morning News.

Dallas doesn't have to make the move official until after April's draft, but this has always been a no-brainer for the organization.

Exercising the option will keep Martin under contract through the 2018 season, and the Cowboys will almost certainly look to open negotiations for a long-term extension well in advance of his first chance to hit free agency.

The Notre Dame product, selected in the first round of the 2014 draft, is a key cog in what is widely considered to be the NFL's premier offensive line. That unit led the way for the second-ranked rushing attack throughout the regular season, playing a significant role in Dallas posting a 13-3 record and coming away with an NFC East title.

Yes, duh! But, as part of the deal, trademark his electric dance in the huddle, as part of the contract.

Any one of you workaday blokes, have a video of that dance???

Excellent. Now sign him long term!

If we've got him signed through 2018, then we don't need to work out a long-term deal until that season. We've got other fish to fry this year.
