Thinking back on the last 24 seasons so far this century, the Cowboys have had several Hall of Famers and an amazing number of first team All Pros playing for them. It is flat out mind boggling with the players we’ve had that we haven’t been able to get past the divisional playoff round in 30 seasons. The Cowboys have had 18 players this century make first team All Pro and 3 more make All Decade teams.

By the way, being All Pro First Team is being chosen as the best of the best in the entire league. Not Pro Bowl. All Pro. Here is the amazing list of FIRST TEAM All Pros and HOFers in Big D since 2000:

PLAYERS WHO WERE FIRST TEAM ALL PRO SINCE 2000
  • Larry Allen G- (also HOFer) 2000, 2001 (Was on SB 30 team but was in ’95 season, and was a 4 time All Pro in 90s)
  • DeMarcus Ware DE- (also HOFer) 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011
  • Jason Witten TE (future HOFer) 2007, 2010
  • Zack Martin - G-(future HOFer) 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023
  • Tyron Smith - LT (future HOFer) 2014, 2016
  • Micah Parsons LB- 2021, 2022
  • Roy Williams S- 2003
  • Terrell Owens WR- (HOFer) 2007
  • Jay Ratliff DL- 2009
  • Dez Bryant WR- 2014
  • Demarco Murray RB - 2014
  • Travis Frederick C- 2016
  • Sean Lee LB- 2016
  • Ezekiel Elliott RB- 2016
  • Trevon Diggs DB- 2021
  • Cedee Lamb WR- 2023
  • Deron Bland DB- 2023
  • Brandon Aubrey K- 2023
That‘s 18 players who were selected First Team All Pro since 2000. That includes 3 current HOFers and at least 3 more who will be in at some point in the future. Btw, how about Zack Martin and his 7 first team All Pro selections which ties him with the great Bob Lily for the most first team All Pro seasons in Cowboys history.

With all these great players and careers, it still blows my mind that (other than Larry Allen and DeMarcus Ware) none of these players won anything more than a WC game. Some of these guys who are still active have a chance to go beyond that.

Let’s not waste the talent of any more great players.

I think a lot of this is due to coaching Jerry puts little value on it.
Coaching is assembled with Jerry's comfort in mind first and how good they are at getting the most out of their players somewhere down the line.

I'll go on record as saying the Jason Garrett experiment wasted quite a few players careers.

Jerry's relentless desire to make him into his version of Tom
Landry failed miserably and kept us in the NFL purgatory of 8 and 8 not bad enough to draft well and not good enough to even make the playoffs.

McCarthy is a more talented version that can keep Jerry comfortable but actually get us to the playoffs.
If Jerry ever aspires to win another super bowl we will have to have a coach that makes everyone fear for their job and Jerry uncomfortable as well

When Jerry stated 20 years ago he was in charge of everything from jocks to socks we now have seen the results.
He has been desperate to prove he's THE WALRUS!
He has refused to bring in a real HC and a franchise QB because then he'd have to share the glory.
Instead he's tried to make chicken salad out of chicken poodoo. But father time is creeping up and his liver kicks him every morning. Either Lance explodes, or in 2025 we'll finally draft a real QB. Zimmer may be capable and bring enough discipline to get the job done.
I'm actually optimistic, this year will be difficult but hopefully we're on the right track.
Thanks to all the great players who've hung in through all this football version of debauchery!

The Jones' clan desperately needs to wake up and come to realize that operating to polish the brand and make money isn't the cure for what ails this team. They sorely need to come to realize that the fans don't care one iota about how rich the Jones family becomes -- they simply want to see a real championship team being built that they can respect, just as they did in times past. Until that comes to matter to them, their sad ways of continuing to build the brand, rather than a true contender isn't what this organization needs to return to championship times.

Consider the 10 years of wasted time with Garrett. And the very lean times after the triplets were gone. Fans had to know there would be some lean times to replace them.

Enter the Campo years, the Parcels, who to me was as just as bad for the team as he was good. Look at the QB's he brought in, instead of drafting one. Before he finally went with Romo that is. Many years wasted.

You can't win with a toxic , distracting culture.
It takes more than talent to win.
Winning is not the priority in Dallas.
Money and entertainment is.
Until that changes, enjoy the big show.

Well done.
Keeping Garrett for 9.5 years was
GM negligence to the first degree.
Wasted so many seasons it's criminal.

Look at all them O-Linemen.

We better draft some more and ignore the very important position that isn’t on here because elite O-Line equals champions, right guys?

I got it from a source right on this site that they are all losers. I mean if you dont bring home the lombardi youre a loser according to some. Now back to reality the cowboys history is filled with greatness and we are lucky as fans to have been part of it. Has the last 30 been as succesful as the 70's and 90's no it hasnt but nevertheless we are guaranteed nothing.

Great list but look at 14 &16....they should have won it all one of those years. Especially when you add others like JWitt. The talent was there. What a waste.

I’m torn between

1) GM Jones assembled all the talent we needed, but the coaching/culture weren’t right (what most people here are saying)

and

2) GM Jones focused (with considerable success) on star players, but the talent down to #53 was never good enough.

There are lots of possible causes and implications for why this organization has underperformed with all these great players in place:
  • Teams win not individuals. Talent alone doesn’t win in the playoffs. It takes a FO putting a complimentary roster together, not a collection of stars. Coaching matters too.
  • This century, we’ve had Dave Campo, Parcells, Wade Phillips, Garrett and now Mike McCarthy. Parcells was a HOF coach who was tired and at the end of his career. And in the end, JJ did not let him run the team the way he wanted (putting T.O. on the roster against his wishes) McCarthy has been the best this century but he also has limited control as evidenced by the Lance trade. Coaches here are hamstrung.
  • The culture is chock full of distractions that make this organization more like a circus than a football team.
