Cowboys FO is lacking

They are taking chances looking to get over the hump and to the SB
the history of the NFL is replete with a new location causing a player to rebound
They have $82 MILLION IN CAP SPACE
so this is really nothing and could pay off big
only total fools just keep lapping up the Jethro juice
Rebound from what? He hasn’t eclipsed 1k yards receiving in 3 seasons and has only done so once in 8 seasons. All while playing in a WR friendly system designed to get the player running free!
They have 82 million in cap space… they also have 28 UFA, including several starters and key backups.
This trade is a non factor for a player who won’t be much more of an upgrade than their current 5 UFA WRs!

There was a specific reason Cooper was traded. That move was about getting him off the roster no matter the compensation.

Lance - who the heck knows.

Mingo trade was all about 2025 with Cook likely not returning.

SF traded Deebo for anything they could get because they were going to release him. He has a high salary and only went 51-670-3 last year. Let's not pretend the Commanders are getting the 2021 version of Samuel because they aren't.

The Cowboys have already announced they will be active in FA this year. The last two drafts are better than the players have produced, they need to get healthy and get better coaching.
Samuel's salary is not that high. It's something like $16.6 million. Plus he is due about $1 million in roster bonuses. He was injured last year so his production was way down. And that may be the problem. He seems to get injured a lot. But if he comes back healthy, at 29, he could still be a factor for Washington.

SF is dumping CAP and trying to get younger. I think they are planning to retool. They are drafting ahead of Dallas this year which is pretty amazing considering their records the past few years.
I understand they are also shopping Brandon Aiyuk. I think SF realizes they have a lot of work to do to catch Philly and Detroit so they have a plan to do just that. Trading two players with 1 year left on their contracts for draft capital is smart. I probably would has asked for more for Deebo but at least they got something for him.

I wish Dallas was that smart. The Cowboys need a couple of years to retool. They are not catching the Eagles in 1 year. They may as well look to this draft and next to restock their rosters. But they stupidly traded away draft picks.

Just to put things in context, Deebo hasn't cracked 1000 yards receiving since 2021, which is also the last (and only) time he played a full season. You want to pay over $20m for that?
Exactly!! I don't see what all the fuss is about him. I don't think he's all "that". But, what the heck do I know.

Nothing has been DONE concerning change and won't until 12 March.

There is only so much crying in an off season for any reasonable discussion.

It's extremely high for a guy that can't stay on the field.

If the Cowboys made that trade people would be losing their minds. Trading a pick for an aging, injured, washed WR who is on the last year of a contract, making over $20m. People here only praise this because it's a move the Cowboys didn't make which automatically makes it genius and another reason to hate on the Cowboys while ignoring the actual facts of the situation.
Agree.

Deebo trade is bad news.

The Mingo trade was full on Jerry saw the talking heads making fun of him for doing nothing before the trade deadline, and after an entire offseason/season of being made fun of, told everyone to just make a trade for SOMETHING to shut them up.
It's his default button when a season is going astray

The Mingo trade was just dumb period.
Foolish more than dumb. That said, all he has to be is decent and the trade will look more palatable. He had Cooper Rush throwing him the ball, and 2 QBs in Carolina that might not be in the NFL much longer. Not sure what Mingo was supposed to do in that situation. But I digress. All excuses are over now. As long as Dak is healthy, he will get a fair shake.

I'm at a point where we all need to speak success into existence. This includes the front office. It's been 30 dang years. Let's try to stay positive, hopefully we can get some good mojo going ahead of free agency and the draft.

The Cowboys FO being stupid with trades is something that's been going on for quite sometime. I don't think you can compare that to the Washington gamble on Deebo. For one the Washington trade is a true bet that Deebo is going to be able to get through a season healthy. If he does - great, high return guy and a playmaker on the field that needs to be accounted for when he is out there, if he doesn't well they are just out a 5th round pick.. That being said Deebo Samuel isn't going to be the difference maker in beating Philly. Going to need a lot more on the defensive side of the ball to match Philly. The Cowboys I won't bother mentioning because this franchise isn't in the same class as Washington and certainly no where near Philly

EXACTLY !!! It was simply to say " we made a trade".

So Dallas trades a 1st rd pick to the Raiders and then a few seasons later, get rid of him for a 5th

Then Dallas trades a 4th to SF for Trey Lance and never uses him

Then the Cowboys trade another 4th to Carolina for WR Mingo and rarely uses him

We learn now the Commanders give away a 5th to SF for Deebo Sanuel

And finally, drag their feet to overpay for players

Dallas doesn't use FA, the past 2 drafts have been poor @ best and continually look stupid with their trades
Let's just cut through the chase, Jerry Jones is the worse GM in the NFL and has held this title for the better part of 3 decades. He truly sucks at his job and that's one of the main reasons why this organization hasn't signed a game changing FA since the 90's. Everything Jerry Jones the GM touches turns to crap! The Cowboys were the COWBOYS long before he arrived in town. Oh yeah, sure he has 3 SBs under his belt, but he personally didn't go out and find the game changing FAs who helped the Cowboys turn into the super team of the early 90's. All that credit goes to the great Jimmy Johnson, who was also the brains behind trading Walker to Minnesota, who in return were fleeced out of too many draft picks to mention and a few decent players to boot! Jerry Jones has turned into a sorry old man with an extremely sorry looking face lift who should save his sons from the same fate and sell the team to another billionaire who has no intentions in naming himself as the next Cowboy GM.
