Cowboys Frederick thinks OL has 'shown some good things'

Cowboys center Travis Frederick thinks the offensive line has displayed some positives three weeks into the regular season.

"I think that we've shown some good things," Frederick said Wednesday. "We, I think, have improved from last year in certain areas and showed areas that we need to improve on."

One area would be pre-snap penalties. Dallas is tied with Oakland for the most false starts with nine, more than halfway towards matching their 2014 total of 17.

"Pre-snap penalties are things we need to avoid and continue to work on," said Frederick.

In the preseason, the offensive line got little work together as right guard Zack Martin sat out the entire preseason with a neck stinger, and left tackle Tyron Smith saw limited action as well. Week One against the Giants was the unit's first time working together in 2015, and they helped quarterback Tony Romo engineer a 27-26 comeback victory. However, Romo broke his collarbone on a sack-fumble the next week in Philadelphia where the offensive line also took part in six pre-snap penalties. Nonetheless, Frederick doesn't believe the lack of preseason time together has been detrimental...

This doesn't negate a developmental direction to this present team, but a Bill Parcells would have had his team to handle directions from the start of a season. And he would have kept his team focused on what is functional to keep a constant level of play, not just projecting forward.

Players then wouldn't have to be explaining away a set of excuses for something not working at an optimum and even aggressive level.

Stop it already
Can someone with a backbone step up and take responsibility ?

its all just a bunch of excuses for why they are losing instead of correcting it and learning how to win without tony this team is going to have to get over it and know they have to win these games tony is not there to drag them kicking and screaming to a win

real life is showing us all who the players really are. and thats ok but what do you expect him to say? Maybe Martin wasnt as good as many hoped, who knows. Lets just keep thinking they are the bestest group eva and put them all in the hall.

Sadly this season is making the great offseason we had, suck. I would say what could you do, but wow, the injuries and suspensions are a bit much.

The pass protection has been excellent for the most part. Martin wasn't good against the Eagles, but I didn't think he was all that bad against the Falcons or the Giants. He does seem a 1/2 step slower, but still pretty darn good.

I'm more worried about Free. He looked good in the first half against the Falcons, but terrible in the second half. Didn't seem to have any gas left in the tank and his foot appeared to be bothering him. We are pretty banged up with Martin banged up, Free still not over the effects of his foot, Witten banged up and Hanna coming off injury and Leary having been out for the last 2.5 games. And no Dez or Romo.

I'd just like to see us get healthy and see what comes from that before I start proclaiming the O-Line a bust (which it still has not been given the excellent pass pro so far).

O line drank their own Kool Aid

I don't think that is necessarily true. The only "Kool Aid drinking" was really by Collins at his intro press conference before he even put on a uniform. I think Martin's injury was (is) more serious than advertised and they didn't get a lot of playing time together in the peeseaon. Leary's and Free's injuries haven't helped. Also, although I am not a huge Murray fan, I think his leaving has had an impact as well. The 90s line gets a lot of credit for Emmit's success, but Emmitt contributed greatly to their success as well. Consistently and rhythm can not be undervalued.

What does Bill Parcells have to do with our O line? Is he still coaching? He was 34-32 with the Cowboys so I am not sure how this applies.

No o-line is going to look great with a bunch of mediocre to poor RBs, a ridiculously bad QB and that lackluster group of receivers.

Romo, Dez and Murray have been to much of a loss.

Is that really a surprise to anyone?

Dallas went away from the run in the 2nd half vs the Falcons. They went to a dink and dunk passing game (even then Weed had all day to throw). The line that got their butt handed to them was the D Line

Yes I think we can halt the best line in nfl history talk. They got owned by the falcons in that second half

Yep, and our coaches think they are so good that they can we can just consistently run at overloaded boxes.

We have the matchups we want out wide and we're just so arrogant.

We are making the game EASY for defenses.

They weren't overloaded boxes. Some of you are not paying close enough attention.

Atlanta played the same defense they did all game. Offensive line just got outplayed in the second half.

The rest of the league always adjusts. After a season of domination you think they broke down our films and tried to figure out how to beat our OL?

I think you're right on here. Free's got to still be hobbled a bit. Martin, too. Not badly, but it's affecting their play. They're close, but it's frustrating watching one player after another take a play off or get beat now and then. Now's not the time for them to not be at their best with Tony out and the running game something we're going to want to rely on more.
