Here are the 2016 free agent quarterbacks (also courtesy of Walter Football):

This year's class of free agents has some real good players at the top. Kirk Cousins and Brock Osweiler had good seasons last year and should demand a hefty price for their services going forward. With Tony Romo under contract, the high price free agent QBs will not be in play for the Cowboys. The team will have to look at the next tier of passers...

Would be pretty funny to see someone poach Kirk Cousins from the Commanders...then what are they gonna do? Turn to RG3? That bridge has been burnt. Would be funny watching them try to mend that fence. We do to the Commanders what the Eagles did to us....Sabotage from within.... :D

Man that list is pretty bad outside of the big money guys............seriously, I would rather just draft Wentz or Goff at 4 and let them be the backup.

Do you seriously think they would be any worse than some of the names on that list?

;) What about that Weeden guy with Houston. I heard he stood up to get them in the playoffs.

With a mended Romo, all we need do is get a 2nd or 3rd round QB who the scouts identify that could emerge with a couple of years of tutoring by Romo.
If they were available and not re-signed, I might take a look at Chase Daniel or Matt Moore to stand in if Romo gets hurt again. Romo is going to be
THE guy for 2 - 3 years according to the Cowboy brass so no sense in a 1st round pick sitting on the bench for that long.

Didn't Rivers sit on the bench for his first two years?...and Rodgers? Even Eli Manning was supposed to sit for at least his rookie season--Coughlin signed Kurt Warner to start but he stunk up the field.

Not to mention there is no guarantee Romo stays healthy enough--and productive enough--to remain starter for 3 more seasons. Having 1st round QB talent being developed by the team and mentored by Romo isn't exactly a bad way to go.

The fact is the lower you take a QB the worse the odds he becomes a solid QB
I have no problem at all having the 4th pick set for a couple years and learn. Waiting till the season you need a QB is a very bad plan as well as hoping a guy from the middle of the draft can develope. Get you the best guy you can, give him time to develope and move seamlessly from Romo to the next guy

The trickiest part of this is that the top QB's aren't being as endorsed as some of the previous years...

A voice of reason. Very rare here.

If cowboys are truly in win now mode they better be big players in FA. You don't build a win now team through the draft!

Hasselback can def win 1-3 games for us if romo goes down. Obviously Cousins and Fitz are returning to their teams as the starting QB.

I agree! I'd rather keep Moore and draft someone in rd one.
If we are bent on a FA then I would have to pick McCoy after what he did to us.

That may or may not mean anything at all. hype does not always mean talent
Ryan Leaf was hyped. It's very early in the process, the top qb's haven't played for teams that get slot of coverage.
I've been reading about my favorite for half the season but it hasn't been mainstream news because what's happening in the lesser divisions is not news that gets ratings
Coming out of the combine I suspect the top 3 qb's in this draft will be evaluated fairly close to the top 3 last year. The top guy may not be evaluated as high as last years top guy, but the overall talent of the top 3 I think will

So, you are also accepting that this is a draft with not many true blue chippers. But a comparative draft where small differences project as huge seperators?

Do you believe there is enough talent to fix three positions for the Cowboys this year? If so, where are you going in your directions here, but plugging the top piece, hopefully, when Tony Romo rides off into the sunset.

Smart moves can be discussed also...
