So, you are also accepting that this is a draft with not many true blue chippers. But a comparative draft where small differences project as huge seperators?

Do you believe there is enough talent to fix three positions for the Cowboys this year? If so, where are you going in your directions here, but plugging the top piece, hopefully, when Tony Romo rides off into the sunset.

Smart moves can be discussed also...

I think QB is too important to wait till you have to get one. Get one now and get the best one you can
I think some position are really good in this draft. Dline is deep and I'd live to add a DT who could demand double teams and push the pocket
I think 3 starter type players is possible maybe a RB, lb could be starter types in the 3rd. First I'm taking a QB if there is one there and if that means I only fix with starters, two other positions I can live with that but even taking a QB in first it's possible to still fix 3 starting positions, just not as likely since you are e peering a 4th rounder go start, or at least be major contributor day one and while that's very possible it's not always a given

As long as the Cowboys can get a strong candidate at DT and CB...I'm pretty flexible, myself.

With a mended Romo, all we need do is get a 2nd or 3rd round QB who the scouts identify that could emerge with a couple of years of tutoring by Romo.
If they were available and not re-signed, I might take a look at Chase Daniel or Matt Moore to stand in if Romo gets hurt again. Romo is going to be
THE guy for 2 - 3 years according to the Cowboy brass so no sense in a 1st round pick sitting on the bench for that long.

I don't get where a QB cant sit on the bench for a while. There have been numerous examples of guys not playing their first couple of seasons and then having great success in this league.

Even at the top of the draft, it has happened. Steve McNair was drafted 3rd overall in 1995 and sat on the bench for 2 seasons before becoming the starting QB for the Titans in 1997. So why all of a sudden does any QB the Cowboys draft have to play right away? Why cant Goff or Wentz sit on the bench for 2 seasons or so and learn the game before being thrown to the wolves?

I don't think there's one thing wrong with that if you take the long view. The long view is something Jerry has never done and at his age is not likely to. He has a few
lucid years left, maybe, and he's only interested in building the Cowboys brand, stadium prestige, and his legacy. He wants a SB like big time and he knows Romo's and
his window is closing. He want a shiny new name brand to put on the field to get his team over the hump and that idea does not include a QB sitting on the bench.

Though I pray you're not correct in reference to JJ's long term solution to remain competitive and his brand to be sought after; TV, fans, media, etc. But I think this prior season taught him that he must have a top QB to guarantee the Cowboy brand. JJ will show us his true intentions with type of back up QBs that are sought after in FA. McCoy signing would show gets that he gets that he won't "luck out" this time in terms of the importance of the QB position in the way Romo fell into his lap after the ugliness of the post Aikman era; go for QB high and invest in the position the most proven way over time.

Romo is no given and JJ has even admitted to this reality more recently with his importance of the QB position quotes. He witnessed the hoops jumped through after denying it; seeing Romo go through constant treatments to allow him to make it to game day (no Wed practices for back in 14/necessary cortisone injections to allow his back to manage though game day). This Romo guaranteed to be around 3 years stuff is PR talk I'm feeling to keep the "brand" prime as you referenced.

Here are the 2016 free agent quarterbacks (also courtesy of Walter Football):

This year's class of free agents has some real good players at the top. Kirk Cousins and Brock Osweiler had good seasons last year and should demand a hefty price for their services going forward. With Tony Romo under contract, the high price free agent QBs will not be in play for the Cowboys. The team will have to look at the next tier of passers...

Ryan Fitzpatrick to me would a good choice as a backup if you ask me.

We certainly need all 3. We need a future QB but we need DT and CB now although my guess is one will get done in free agency

Given the reality of the past 4 years, this reads as wishcasting. Romo given his track record is more likely to get hurt than not. We saw what that means.

And draft Hogan in the 3rd or 4th.

Hasselback can def win 1-3 games for us if romo goes down. Obviously Cousins and Fitz are returning to their teams as the starting QB.

He couldn't get the Colts to the playoffs....what makes people think he could do it here? He was a walking zombie by the end of the year he took so much punishment last year. Don't see him coming back after this year. I'd bet he retires.
