Cowboys future

They made a mistake when they hired MikeM.

should have kept Jason as HC.

We’ll get a high draft pick and after draft day everyone will talk about how good we are at drafting and how whoever we drafted will make us contenders. As always, the prior season will be forgotten and we’ll be on the road to the Super Bowl until we start losing a few games.

Same dance, different year.

Sad to see the Smith/Frederick/Martin/Collins dream evaporate this year.

2014 Tony was playing at MVP level, Dez All Pro, Murray rushing champion.

And we pick up Collins to *add* to Smith/Leary/Frederick/Martin/Free. I had dreams of Collins playing from FB to get them all on the field at the same time.

2015 Tony is out, but that just gives us a huge draft haul in 2016. And then Tony goes down again, but the line is even more dominant than it was in 2014, with Zeke looking even better than Murray, and Dak having one of the best rookie QB seasons ever! New dynasty, baby!

Zeke suspended, Tyron bad back, Dez and Williams exposed in 2017. But Dlaw with 14.5 sacks! War Daddy, baby!

Frederick with GB in 2018, but LVE and Jaylon look like the up and coming best LB duo in 2018. DLaw still with 10.5 sacks!

DLaw with 5 sacks in 2019. LVE breaks. Jaylon slides all year, looking increasingly gimpy. Frederick isn't the same, but next year! And Gallup is a #1!

2020, Garrett finally gone! Yay! But Frederick retires. Wah! But look at all the wonderful free agents we're signing for the defense! No more dumpster diving this year! And what a draft! Jackpot!

And then - ugh - 2020.

Along with the slow slide of the oline, we had flashes of greatness that flamed out in Zeke, Jaylon, DLaw, LVE.

Now it's an older oline, maybe a QB, and talented WRs.
That was a great well thought out post.

I thought Troy Aikman's assessment of the Cowboys situation was somewhat understated during our game vs. the Ravens. Basically, what he noted was that he didn't know what to say of the Dallas Cowboys' situation, concerning what the future holds for them. Certainly, he's aware of the poor handling that has taken place and was likely being kind in responding to his ideas. Yet, I do believe the seeds of doubt were planted. ;)

I think the future is undetermined because it depends on this draft
The idea that’s it’s bleak is a bit over stated to me
This year there may be a cap issue but over next couple years the most over paid players are easily removed and their contracts were designed that way
The oline has been a big problem this year but the future looks good
McGovern has gotten better with playing time. Martin, smith and Collins will all be back. We’ve seen knight is a solid RT prospect, Biadasz looks to be a fine center prospect
I just don’t see the future being as bleak as some
We need to rebuild a good part of the defense
But we have a good shot at adding 3 starter quality player in this draft

Tough to see any kind of hope for a future with the Jones family and what that means regarding a true football culture.

oh occasionally, you hit a decent season like 2007, 2009, 2014, 2016 or 2018 - like when Jerry threw a massive party in LA because they found a way to get to the divisional round (yay!!!).

True championship contention? No way, not with the “unique way we are structured.” Hate? I don’t like to use that word, but I truly hate, despise, everything about the Jones family and the way they run a football team.

This WAS a great, great franchise at one point. There are a lot of great fans on this site, and I’ve met plenty attending games in different cities. They deserve so much more than what the Jones have delivered. And yeah, “did I enjoy those 3 Super Bowls?” I sure did, but outside of hiring Jimmy Johnson, Jerry had little to do with them, and he’s made very, very few If any good decisions since. It’s difficult to see any positive future with him or Stephen leading the way.

Nice timeline and corresponding fan perception. Accurate.

The current Cowboys organization have given back little to there great fans in the last 25 years. But as great fans we still have hope.

lets be honest with ourselves for a minute....

1) defense - is it garbage? Yup...its bad, very bad but a big part has to do with scheme and the fact that this is year 1 with literally no offseason to setup
2) Dak - has hurt, hes 100X better than Dalton and a much better player- not having him has probably been the biggest loss to the season
3) Oline injuries - we have 1 starter left, that's a big big reason why we lost games even when the d was playing a little better in certain games
4) coaching - its just not good, part is the coaches, part is the situation they are in, part is the culture

I honestly believe if we didn't have the massive injuries we had, we would probably be at 5 wins now and in 1st place....not incredible or a great year, but in a much better position.

BUT.....

all that being said, we still have a very good offense and will be great there next year once healthy...also, we are going to have high draft picks and if we can grab 3 starters for the defense and a few FA's this team could be greatly improved next year.

It feels bleak, but the reasons (or excuses) are valid in a lot of respects
