The reason Randy Gregory fell down draft boards a year ago -- off-the-field issues -- is why Gregory will be forced to sit out the first four games of the upcoming season. Gregory, suspended for violating the league's substance-abuse policy, will have plenty to prove in his second season.

First on that list is avoiding failed drug tests and actually staying on the field. If he fails another test, he'll be banned for 10 games.

When Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett recently spoke about Gregory's maturity level, he indicated that the second-year pass rusher has improved in that regard since he joined the team. He also made it clear that Gregory "has a long way to go."

"Just in everything he does -- how he handles himself in meetings, in the walk-through, in the offseason program, on the practice field," Garrett said, per the Star-Telegram. "Again, it's a work in progress. He has gotten better. But he has a long way to go. A lot of guys have a long way to go."

Has anybody seen any pics. of him from OTA's ?
All I have seen is the one pic. from the golf outing, and was kinda hard to tell if he was bigger at all. Call it fool's gold, but I'm still hoping he can get his **** together. Low expectations is right - Sigh..... C'mon, Randy you can do it ....

I am over Randy Gregory. If we were using defcon warning system - Dallas would be at Defcon 1 for Gregory next suspension. When your high at the combine then lie to entire Cowboys coaching staff that it wont happen again then NFL means Not For Long (thanks to Jerry Glanville for that one).

How does that square with a guy that just got suspended for being caught multiple times?

It's up to Gregory to fix Gregory. No one can make him realize what he is throwing away. When he does realize it then he will be fixed. Hopefully this was the incident that makes the light come on because he is just about out of second chances

He could have left that last part out. Sure, it may be true, but the last thing RG needs to hear is that he's an idiot, but not the only idiot. I feel it's a round about way of making excuses for him.

Can't believe how many are done with him after one year

I don't think it's about being done. It's about his choices. He hasn't made good ones so far and it's very hard to see that he will in the future. Hope he does, we need the player and for his own sake I hope he does. But most have little faith he will and that's on him, not them. Everyone gave him the benefit of the doubt when he came to the team. Most people have a way of giving up on you when you continue to make the same mistakes over and over. It's up to him to prove he deserves their faith in him as a player

When a player fails a drug test at the combine, then tells all the teams that he's learned his lesson and will do whatever it takes to stay clean, then swears he won't let down the coach who can make him the best player he can be, then fails four drugs tests despite knowing he's going to be tested. .. yes, it's hard to have any faith he can get it together even though it's only been one year.

I was ready to give up on him on draft day so I'm way over him now. There's a lot of questionable guys in the nfl but smoking the week of the combine is just really bad and telling

No matter the degree of social acceptability...social stupid is arrogance of the worst level.

As to Gregory, the kid is still socially redeembable...but now, with a zero tolerance clause in his status with the team, as well as with fans.

I feel as if Garret was calling him out but didnt want to completely drive the bus over him so he made it a point to say hes not the only one that has maturing to do.

If Gregory hearing that makes him feel more relaxed then it probably doesnt matter what he hears, hes a lost cause.

No excuse, but the guy has mental problems. He may never snap out of it.
