I was lucky enough to have been at that game as well as the other NFCC wins in the 90's (including an incredible surprise gift from my boss getting me a game ticket, airline ticket, and a hotel for the '92 game in SF). I hope to continue my positive impact when Carolina comes to Dallas next week!

This was about the time the changing of the guard happened. Didn't happen this day but you could see it coming. We were near the end of our run and GB was rising to the top. We had to hold on to win that. After this, GB became the team to beat the next few years and had their time in the sun.

Yeah they only got 1 Super Bowl out of it. I think they could have been something special had they won back to back but 1 Super Bowl ruins it a little bit. I know that's harsh but they should have had multiple titles.

Yeah they could have easily won the SB that year in 95. They had a good chance to win that game and could have beaten Pitt. They were also supposed to blow out Denver but things don't always go as planned.

They were in the wrong era. Their early teams were very good but Dallas and SF was always in their way.

God I miss listening to Madden and Summerall.

OK I am definitely in the minority here. I love Madden- he was my favorite color commentator and brought a prospective about the game that was always refreshing.

However, I started listening to these guys in the mid-80 to late 80s. By then, I always felt that Summerall was about 3 seconds behind the action. He would see things that didn't exist and assume things that were usually inaccurate. It kinda felt like I was watching the game with my grandfather. Basically, during the game I just ignored what he said and just listened to Madden talk. I'm sure Summerall was a nice guy, but he just wasn't my cup of tea. Of course, I didn't hear him during his prime, which was likely the 70s and early 80s. I prefer guys like Al Michaels (in his prime). Smart, sharp intelligent guys that see things coming before they happen.

Ron Wolf (the Packers GM) spent 3-4 years in the 90s slowly and meticulously assembling a team who's sole purpose was the defeat the Dallas Cowboys. The signed Reggie White, the developed a mammoth NT in Gilbert Brown who was there to go belly to belly with the Cowboys OL. They signed Santana Dotson and Sean Jeans also on the DL. All of this was designed to neutralize the Cowboys OL.

The games starting in 93 where Cowboys blowouts. The game got more competitive in 94 and 95 and even into the 96 regular season but the Packers never managed to beat those great Cowboys teams.

When the Packers finally assembled their best squad (the 96 team - 97 teams) the Cowboys had begun their slide downwards and they never met in the playoffs.

I'm wondering how the matchup in 96 would have went. They ended up playing Carolina. Irvin got injured against the Panthers and we could not get anything going after that. I thought we had more talent than Carolina but we just played badly that day. Actually both Carolina and Jax made the championship games that year.

I think Green Bay was better than us that season but I would have liked to see us get a shot at them.

That Carolina game had a bunch of injuries IIRC. Deion had a fractured eye socket, Irvin hurt, I believe Bjornson got hurt as well. All I remember is Troy having to throw to Billy Davis throughout the second half.

I remember the Lambeau crowd chanting "We want Dallas, We want Dallas," the week before they could have met in the NFC Championship. ALAS, it was not to be, as both Irvin and Deion went down in the Carolina game and we just couldn't overcome it.

The next year we met them in the regular season in Lambeau, the game was tied at halftime and was still close deep into the second half before we wilted. The final score of 45-17 was symbolic of the mediocre team we were becoming under Jones/Switzer.
