Cowboys get 4 compensatory picks

Rumor mill is, the head honcho's wife will trade all 4 - 5th round picks for some lame art. And may get better production.

So far this year, we lost 2 players that may get comp picks. We signed 4 FA's, but not sure if all from other teams, or if a few were street FA's. So they may not count against the guys we lost.
Of course it all comes down to contact size.

Isn’t this old news. I thought we’ve known for a while that we had 10 picks, including four 5th rounders?
Yep, but you know Jezza and the Media Team have it red lettered on the calender.....
Week before FA, create space and build the Buzz,
Day after FA....get pushing the number of draft picks (concentrate on the quantity over quality).

Can we use the 5's and the 6's to get up to the 4th round? would like that to happen.

Sam Darnold

Which illustrates how flawed the compensatory formula is.

If the idea is to compensate teams that lost players, the evaluation should be based on what value was lost by the original team, rather than the value gained by the new team.

Darnold was far less important to the 9ers than Dorance Armstrong was to the Cowboys.
Pretty sure it’s based mostly on the size of the contract, but I think performance is somehow factored in as well.

He signed a one year deal when he left SF. They got a third for that? Wow.

I don’t get too wound up over comp picks. The one time Dallas got one of significance it was a third for Byron Jones, and they threw it away on Nashon Wright.

To date, everyone signed would count against the formula. How much? Don't know. But none were released, but signed as guys whose previous contract expired.

Carson started off looking pretty good.
Then fell off some. But that is to be expected when better surrounding players go down as well.

I think he will bounce back, and in his 2nd year, will be better.

Way too early, and very unofficial. As the contract values are much different.
Lewis and Jones contract offset each other, as Golston and Thomas does. Those are about equal though. But a big difference with Lewis.
Or maybe they offset 1 for 1 regardless of contract size.

Williams and Turner do but qualify, as if we lose Edoga, he does not either.

Of course all of the will change. Also, the column to the left shows Dallas as getting a 7th round pick, but a "net value" listed instead of player lost. I wonder if that would be Lewis once FA is over. Of course another team could get that as well.

I hope we lose a few more, such as DLaw if he qualifies to get a few comp picks.

I was wrong. The 3rd is for Ryans.

Playing time, Post season impact, Contract-- a lot is involved.

But weirdly, it seems the 9ers got the 4th for losing Chase Young who had a smaller contract and less playing time than Armstrong. And DA had 3.5 sacks in the playoffs.

With all these extra picks, maybe it'll make up for the lack of FA signings! We'd best hope so!
