Cowboys Get Alarming Draft Label From Mel Kiper

Well, Kiper gets a Cowboys Fan Site grade of S for Stupid and Slow-witted.

@thunderpimp91 - We usually agree but not on this one. When Covid hit, I was 50 years old. Fat from sitting on my butt for 30 years of office work and I was still doing sets of 10 and I was only lifting to try to keep a little definition. Focused more on flexibility and keeping all my muscle groups relatively strong.

These guys have all the best conditions to do nothing but get in fantastic shape. Everyone but specifically linemen ought to be blowing the bench press up.
All good, I think its more worrisome when posters cant find anything to disagree on.

First off doing 10 reps at 225 at 50 is incredible, hats off to you! You've probably been doing it for so long it doesnt feel like a massive achievement, but even hitting 1 rep at that weight typically takes some training.

Personally I think the bench press for OL is a little overrated of an event. Booker is three inches shorter than Tyler Guyton but has longer arms that Guyton. His build is going to work against him for the bench press event. Just my personal opinion but I wish they would update the bench press and give two different weight options. I'd be more interested in how some of these bigger guys test at 315 as opposed to 225 on bench. Once you get into 20+ reps it becomes as much of a stamina showing than a power display. I know in theory you should be able to say a guy does X reps at Y weight so his max should be Z, but thats not always the case. Plus for a sport like football where plays last a few seconds I'm significantly more invested in what these guys are capable of in terms of more weight/fewer reps. To me getting 5-6 reps at 315 is more impressive than 20 reps at 225. Benching for 30+ seconds at a time just isnt a motion that translates over to football to me. I would much rather see a shorter event that requires more usage of those fast twitch muscle fibers than the slow twitch fibers.

Kiper gave us a B which is higher than he normally grades us. I like Mel, but I think Dallas is one of the teams he doesn't like or pay much attention too.

Mel grades on a curve depending on which teams feed him the most information and player access. Objectively is optional.

I've been listening to him since he started the whole mock draft/draft grade craze. He doesn't like Dallas. He is a Ravens Fan. He is from Baltimore. He's not right about everything, but who is?

He’s an entertainer at this point. The off season doesn’t begin until fans hear the sound of his voice. Most of the guys doing these evaluations and mocks know little more than he does, some even less.

He has carved out quite a career. I sometimes wonder how much of what he says he was told to say.

Wasn't kiper pissed that Sanders didn't go in the first? He's trying to stay relevant
He had sanders top rated QB in the draft. I’m not a sanders first rnd fan but he did fall much farther than he should have. But he was never a first rnd QB let alone top at his position

I could give 2 chits what Mel thinks. What's alarming is that he still has a gig.
Tell sophisticated Mel to catch up with the Cowboys.

Dallas Cowboys offseason recap

  • Notable additions: RB Javonte Williams, DE Dante Fowler Jr., DL Solomon Thomas, G Robert Jones, CB Kaair Elam, LB Kenneth Murray, QB Joe Milton
  • Notable losses: DE DeMarcus Lawrence, CB Jourdan Lewis, RB Rico Dowdle, WR Brandin Cooks, DE Chauncey Golston, G Zack Martin

Now add in the draft.

RB Jaydon Blue
DE Donovan Ezeiruaku
OG Tyler Booker
CB Shavon Revel Jr

Much cheaper and talented players have replace lost veterans.

Travis Frederick did 21 bench reps at the combine.
- He has 33" arms.
- He had dominant power in the NFL...

Tyler Booker did 21 bench reps at the combine.
- He has 34-1/2" arms.
Good point. Travis explained that he focuses on one or two rep strength and not number of reps.

The Cowboys tried to trade down. They couldn't get the value of the pick so they stayed pat.

Zack Martin must have been a horrible pick at 16 also!!!

I guess every team from 12 to 21 didn't value Hampton the same as Kiper so they were all wrong to pass on him too.
Kipers hair plugs have apparently rotted at the roots an affected his brain. Same guy that said Sanders was a round one lock. Rotting hair plugs are a bad thing.
