Cowboys Get Alarming Draft Label From Mel Kiper

The Cowboys tried to trade down. They couldn't get the value of the pick so they stayed pat.

Zack Martin must have been a horrible pick at 16 also!!!

I guess every team from 12 to 21 didn't value Hampton the same as Kiper so they were all wrong to pass on him too.
Zach Martin was a tackle in college. So he was more of a premium pick versus a pure OG like Booker. If not an elite OT, rule of thumb is make a college OT a OG, and never draft a pure OG in the 1st round unless the OG is a C/OG flex.

Btw I’ve also seen it said that Booker’s 21 reps on the bench were pretty embarrassing for a guy who talks about making people quit.
Wait for the grade which will come 3 years from now.

Also, Mel Kiper, who I knew personally we he started with his blue boo years ago knows football personnel. I agree with him regarding not picking a pure OG in the 1st round, and I already stated why.

You guys got to stop drinking the Jerry Dumbo GM Jones Kool Aid. To think less of Mel Kiper vs. Jerry Jones when it comes to evaluating players and picks is incredulous.

Of course was Zack a horrible pick at 16. But he was a great player. Gotta understand the difference between a pick and a player.

Guards just dont matter that much. You pick very good ones in round 2 or 3. And thats all you need.

Premium picks are for LTs not the least important position of the OL.

Yeah the bench press, and in particular 225 for reps, isn't the end all be all of strength. It's as much muscular endurance as it is one rep strength. On top of that how much does he squat, does he get low and get good leverage, how is is hand and footwork etc. 21 reps isn't impressive in comparison, but it's not alarming either.
As a senior in high school I could bench press 210 ten times. But not with my hands wide. I put them together in the middle of the bar. I don't know how many times I could do 225, but I was only 5'11 165 pounds. I would imagine a big offensive lineman should do a lot more. But does it even matter?
