Cowboys had a potential trade for WR

People that are saying no to Pickens, would you rather Mingo or Tolbert as your #2? If it’s either Pickens or those two for the second spot than give me Pickens.
Pickens is an underrated talent for sure and would instantly be head and shoulders above any of the other receivers not named CeeDee.

Of course you would say that.

Jerry has you right in the palm of his hand.
I mean it might have been an outstanding draft but that doesn’t matter. In all honesty I think the Cowboys are 5-6 elite starters minimum behind the Eagles even if it was a great draft.

Talent is the key word. Even the best Steelers WRs have a rough reputation once you get them away from the Steelers.

This Pickens stuff is doing my head in.

I thought the idea of Schottenheimer, and his potential impact to the team, was him realizing the importance of character and desire to play football as the primary prerequisite to winning football.

Theoretically he had convinced the Jones that this was the direction the team needed to go. We kept hearing about the guys we were drafting as, alphas, leaders, love football etc...
and yet people want to add Pickens to this team.

It's the complete antithesis of everything they've been talking about this off season.

I get what you are sayin
Mingo is raw and has 2 years left on his contract, Pickens is a headcase and needs a new deal after 1 more year.

I will take the younger raw guy with the better contract that isnt going to be a cancer.
I get what you are saying but sometimes you have to take chances. It all depends on what the Steelers would want but to try Pickens for 1 year before he needs a new contract is worth it. Mingo has shown absolutely nothing to indicate that he would make a good number 2 receiver next year. 2 or 3 years? Maybe but that’s still a gamble and it certainly doesn’t help them win football games next season.

Honestly, I can live with the diva issue, it's part of most WRs' MO for some reason. I think part of Pickens' problem is simple maturity. He has the talent of a #1 WR, but way too much inconsistency. But I have no problem giving the Steelers a 5th-round pick for what would be a one-year rental. IMO his talent and low contract cost are well worth it

Depending on price, I think I may roll the dice. It is my understanding that he doesn't have off the field issues, nor is a problem in the locker room. Hell, we had Dez who was very immature, but he was passionate about the game. He is a true alpha, #1 WR. I may go as high as a 4th due to his age, but not a day 2 pick. Think the Steelers were asking a 3.

My first choice would be for a Cooper reunion as we know he played well with Dak, but there is no denying Pickens talent, on a 1yr tryout, worth the risk if they could somehow get him for a day 3 pick.

Pickens is productive. My problem with him isnt production or even being a diva. I could care less. I dont need a team full of guys that tuck their shirts in. My problem with Pickens is he a very long history of doing incredibly stupid things on the field. He is a guy you have to worry about blowing a big game by getting a crucial, and completely pointless penalty
On the field antics, I fully get it, but his teammates seem to like him and he has had any off the field issues. A 1yr deal in a contract season is worth the risk if the price becomes a day 3 pick. If it doesn't work on, you simply move on.

#1 WR's are hard to find, just look at this year's draft, many believe there wasn't a true #1 in the entire class. These type of players are usually taken high up every year. If they do their homework on Pickens and they believe he could work, you make a deal.

I would lean Cooper. The problem with Pickens is that we would have to pay him a long-term contract soon, and I don't know if I want to dedicate a large portion of our cap to a player who is "troubled." I think we can sign Coop to a 1 or 2 year deal and not hurt our cap situation.

I understand the future cap concerns, but Pickens is the younger, better player.

Pickens in Dallas would be a disaster. Sometimes, the best move is the one you don't make.

I get that, and I would be down with that if we had an owner who was willing to manipulate, maximize, and massage the cap. We have Tyler Smith, Bland, and Ferguson coming up this year.
