That means 5 years ago these guys thought of this moment and prepared for it.

This front office. We are spoiled.
Prior to Jan. 14, while MM cannot entertain formal offers, teams can indicate an interest in him, and vice-versa. Not very exclusive negotiation rights.

If Ben Johnson becomes available and you don’t throw everything at him then this will be another season I won’t watch

Idc if Ben wins 2 games his first year here you throw everything at him even your clothes idc if you negotiate naked

Be aggressive for once
May as well start early….jerry won’t ever pay Johnson’s ask

I still find it funny that some think McCarthy will actively walk away from the job if Dallas wants him back, I’ll die on this hill and eat crow if wrong. It’s one of. 32 jobs in the nfl and as bad as we may think it is right now or with Jerry it’s more desirable than Jacksonville, New Orleans or the jets.

So the team let him play out the year without a deal because (whether you agree or disagree) in their eyes he hadn't earned one, the team then goes on to have a horrendous season and the worst of his disappointing tenure here and now anyone thinks they will opt to re-sign him? In what world does that make any sense? Nothing happened this year to convince anyone he should be here in the last 4 months so either he should have been signed before this season or he needs to go. Only in a world where Jerry Jones is the owner and GM can this even be a discussion.

It gets better.

Per Ian Rapoport, they want to offer him a one year deal.

So this null and void defunct 2024 will be the same exact thing in 2025.

Stinks for Big Mike. He can't interview at all. Conceivably, all the jobs can be taken before he even gets to speak with a team.

Then, Jerry and Stephen will tell him they are going in another direction. That's the worst. Smh

Edit:
Just saw Risen's post that the Cowboys can grant him permission to interview elsewhere.

fully agree, but if rumours are true and he wants the job with the Bears...I think they might be a more dysfunctional franchise than ours
The Bears have a young QB and some weapons at WR. I'd pick the team with the younger talented QB than Dallas and dealing with the Jones boys.

Great. That's like having "exclusive rights" to the football equivalent of an STD. Thanks for nothing Jerry.

unless he is gonna retire after next year and move into a f/o role.
i bet he gets 3 or 4yrs.

What makes the Cowboys job more “desirable than Jacksonville, New Orleans or the Jets”? Here’s some not so secret information. Mike McCarthy will be the head coach of the team that offers him the most money to be their head coach. Assuming he gets even a single offer.

You either want him back or you don't. If you want him back, he is going to cost you. If you don't, you better hit on the next coach. You can do way worse than Mike. Either way it is moot. Mike or a new coach isn't going to make this team into a contender over the next few years.

They have had an awful OL for a decade, and a clueless GM. I haven't even mentioned the turnstyle of coaches the last number of years, and a cheaper owner than we have. They are this close to runining Caleb as they did Fields

You aren't wrong. But, Johnson is coming from Detroit which was in the same spot forever. He's seen first hand how the Lions did it...I'd go to Chicago as the "fancy new toy" in town knowing they will likely give me everything I want while copying the Lions blueprint.

No way the Jones boys do that.

Ownership along could be the reason Johnson turns down the eventual interview request. He seems to also come with some "I want..." baggage, and this may not sit well with current executives/owners of the Bears. Let's be honest though, Johnson looks amazing but he also has been gifted the most impressive offense the league has seen in years
