Come on.. Just because we can't get to the QB doesn't excuse the awful play designs that go on offensively.

I know. I let the general offensive efficiency in terms of points per series excuse the awful play designs.

Can't find such an excuse for the fact we can't pressure the other teams' QBs enough, which is why I don't get why so many of our fans just excuse it.

The offense was terrible without Romo; aka the playcalling stunk for the back ups. Nice try though:D

Lol if you think the limitation last year was the play calling, of all things. Did you somehow not notice the QB play?!?

Jerry, give us one monster DE from the draft. Looks like you have no interest in a QB in the draft. Then so be it but get the biggest, fastest, meanest DE in the draft.

He is lingering on the fringes, and Dallas absolutely needs an additional outside force on defense....yesterday.

Is Ayers still out there? If he is there by then Sunday night I think he could be reasonable. A 4 year 7 per deal with about 10 to 14 guarenteed ( essentially making it a 2 year deal) would be very reasonable IMO

I haven't heard of his name in ink yet...

We haven't had a pass rush in a long time, but its been even longer that we've had a top notch defensive back field. We've spent plenty of resources at both positions, and spans several coaching staffs. And other than Ware, our DBs and DEs come here and become UDFA level players. At some point you can't blame the players anymore. It's time to look deeper and perhaps consider cleaning house in the scouting and evaluation department. They can't seem to be able to evaluate defensive players for nothing. That and for whatever reason, the Cowboys can't seem to develop these players.

Did you not notice how we completely failed to scheme and design plays to fit the individual strengths of the QB's we used? Funny how Weeden went on to Houston and was significantly better.

Guys brace for it because we might actually finish last this time- where are the sacks coming from? Lawrence is good but his back injury scares me. The rest is a complete unknown.

Defensively I don't think general efficiency was the issue last year, especially against the pass. It was our ability to the make game changing plays that was the difference between 4 wins and maybe 8 wins last year even without Romo. We got pressure but we couldnt finish. We had sound coverage from thw CB position but couldnt make plays on the ball.

We had 5th best pass defense in the NFL and its an issue. And Im not saying that in a cynical matter. It is an issue because efficiency didnt win any games last year. We lost alot of close games and the inability to create plays didnt put us in the position we needed to swing the tide in some of those games ( Seattle, NO, Eagles, Buccaneers, Giants)

The defense has been our heel for a long time. When we couldn't score and because we couldn't take the ball away to save our lives, teams didn't need to take chances against us.

I totally agree on the inability to make plays, on offense, defense, and ST last year. Offensively, we know what that was. On ST we hurt ourselves more than we helped ourselves and it cost us. Defensively, though, I really thought we were going to have solved the pressure problem--or at least improved it dramatically with Lee back, Hardy and Gregory added, and with development from the young DLs (Crawford and Lawrence) and McClain back in the lineup with a full offseason with the club. We have a defense that's built around taking the ball away, and we just couldn't do it to save our lives.

No, I didn't notice that. Mostly because it's a baseless criticism. It's the same scheme and play calling we're so successful with when we have a talented QB under center. And no, I don't subscribe to the obvious fantasy that Tony Romo's numbers are good because he disregards the scheme and the play calling when he's in there.

Weeden's rating, btw--without Dez in the lineup in Dallas--compares favorably to his performance in HOU with the notable exception of the New England game. And that's with HOU playing IND and TEN in the two games he played. HOU was able to win against those two teams because they also got plays from the team around him.

The pass rush wasn't great in 2014, no. But we did take the ball away from teams anyway. That's what really matters. Pressure makes that more likely, but as long as you get the ball away, you're ok.

Backup QBs suck all over the league. The best you ought to hope for is a guy who can come in and not kill you like Cassel did to us against the Giants. When you lose your franchise QB, the defense and the ST need to step up, and ours didn't get it done last season. They were close, but they couldn't get it done.

We won 1 game without Romo and JG/Linehan leading the way; this was not specific to us around the league;). I've passed that stage and want Goff @ 4 as there is no guarantee Romo will be healthy all season or next, etc . DL/RB/CB/S the rest of the draft but really thought we would have gotten Miller to solidify the RB position. I thought with the win now mentality that JJ has kept reiterating prior to FA, that he would open the wallet a bit more than we have at this point tbh. You have to get some help in FA whether it's a gamble or not but like the Thornton pickup for depth or to compete for a starting position.

Romo bails out this offensive scheme as being predictable and simple. All of the burden taken on by Romo exposed a lot of problems with this scheme that many of us have been complaining about during the 8-8 stretch. The scheme is dated and needs to be scrapped. Just let Romo get paid as OC/HC to even things out a bit:D
