76 was a year or two before my time Cowboys wise, but as a little kid I remember the Bicentennial being a big deal.

Red white and blue and stars everywhere.

Graduated high school that spring - Highlands HS in San Antonio.
Our school colors were Maroon & White; our robes were Maroon --but our cap tassels were red, white and blue.

Isnt that what started the whole Americas Team albatross? For the bicenntenial in 76 they had these and the annual NFL Films highlight film was named Americas Team, most likely inspired by seeing that all year. And us fans have to here crap about it from "haters" (true meaning of that word for a change) for 46 years and counting.
