Our talent is among the worst in the league and there’s only so much coaching can do.

I’m of the opinion that this is a two year project to get to top 15.

Well only 32 teams so 15 is basically avg.
They will add draft picks and 1 or 2 FA also, depends on how that works out.
But a good test is what he does with what he has.

No NFL ownership group would allow a 34 year old first time DC to dictate personnel decisions. And if one ever did it would not be Jerry Jones. Schottenheimer doesn’t get to dictate who the team should draft or sign.

I'm gonna concur on this one. He "might" be able to indirectly exert a modicum of influence through Schottenheimer. But that's a big "might". It's really his first turn at bat. He's supposed to be smart and player friendly but him not having done this before (DC) is certainly a concern. Can he get the defense turned around in what's left of Prescott's window? That is a key question...because lets face it, if the defense is still a boat anchor next year there are gonna be those who want to jump ship pretty quickly.

I'm keeping my expectations low...regardless of what is sure to be a deluge of wish-casting as we approach the start of the 26' season. I'm rooting for the guy for sure but I'm still going to need to see some receipts.
