The Irony.
This is the first rounder our scouts had the highest grade on but the coaches did not want him.
So they traded down and took OC Travis The Beard Frederick,
Yeah Marinelli said he wasn’t twitchy enough.

i wonder if this Floyd vs Fredrick fiasco among scouts vs coaches eventually brought on the Taco Charlton (coaches).. over TJ Watt (scouts) fiasco as well.

The other irony is both players (Floyd and Fredrick) had their NFL careers totally cut short by totally uncontrollable reasons.

The Irony ? ... Apparently Marinelli thought Taco was " twitchy" enuff ..and he thought TJ Watt was not a "scheme" fit.

Although we already had a 237 lbs Randy Gregory as a 4-3 DE.

Surround Quinn with "his guys".

Simple and common concept but clueless buffoons will make it into something about being cheap.
Was it up to Quinn to keep George Edwards and Leon Lett when he came in ..?

Was he forced to keep those two upon arrival.. just as McCarthy was likely forced to keep Kellen Moore upon arrival ?

This is the man that made Will McClay. Remember the draft room turmoil about trading down, not taking Floyd, and drafting Travis Fredrick? Tom Ciskowski went from boss to losing his authority to Will McClay over wanting to draft Floyd.

How the World Turns.

These signings mean nothing at this point. Just filling holes with names. Maybe it works out, maybe it doesn't.

Marinelli is the one who bonged Floyd. The scouts had him #4 on our draft board, but Marinelli said he didn't want him in the war room. We then traded back in haste for less than the value of the pick....the result of that embarrassment was no more live war cam while Dallas was on the clock and McLay took on a new role of acting as a bridge between the scouting department and coaches. Our draft is now a combo of scout evaluations and coaching preferences put together McLay.

People do not realize how much losing Travis Frederick set back this OL. Cowboys OL was garbage after Andre Gurode left. But the issue was Fredrick had no higher graded than a low 2nd round/3rd round grade out of Wisconsin. If they would have stuck to the draft board, they would have got Floyd and Fredrick who knows how that would have turned things. Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda.

We had him slated as the pick when Jerry went and picked Frederick. Marinelli didn’t want him.

Stephen and Garrett were completely clueless when this happened, as they thought we were picking Floyd. Stephen even flat out admitted the miscommunication in the draft room.

It is also wild that Marinelli wouldn’t want a guy, but the FO and coach like Garrett (clearly just a pawn by that point) thought that was the guy.

You can Google the following article in Dallas News for the details on the draft room chaos:

Exclusive: How Cowboys got confused during 2013 draft, passed on Sharrif Floyd

The excuses of Stephen don’t pan out regarding the system, because Marinelli was declared the DC in January I believe and the changes to the defense were already known. To act like there was confusion because of a new system that wasn’t communicated to the scouts doesn’t fly and if they do, no wonder our FO is a joke.

I don't worry too much about the small changes to defensive coaches as Quinn's team has done a dam good job mostly.

I agree. In spite of the fact we ended up with freddie, he wasn't plan A or B in round 1. In fact, I recall an interview the day after the draft where Freddie's agent is quoted as saying the only person more surprised by the pick than Freddie was him.

Wasn't he the player that also had arms that were too short according to Rod? I understand what that means in a game were leverage matters but come on man lol
