This is common place for practically any staff as a new head coach takes over.

We just might find it strange because Jason Garrett was accelerated into the Cowboys cocoon and was then so insulated his whole career that he had a limited pool to choose from.

It was not about relationships he personally forged. It was more about friend of a friend of a friend. His father knew this guy, oh this friend recommended this guy.

Garrett coached for a decade and what tree can he say he developed?

Zero.

That says a lot about how much of a waste it was.
Garrett's tree was more like a telephone pole.

So 1...ok

It is what it is, man. I once applied to a national company in Dayton, Ohio. Interview went great. The guy called me out in the hall. He said, "We'd love to have you. Everything looks good and I can tell you know what you're talking about......but the big bosses have decided this job is going to a woman."

Something like that. I still remember him saying, "this job is going to a woman." For days I was like I'm the best qualified, but the bosses decided they want a woman? So being a woman trumped being qualified?

Didn't make sense then, and still don't. Sucks, but it is what it is.
