I don't find it unreasonable.. It's basically going back to the way things were before the advent of social media.

This is pretty standard and it really has nothing to do with the 'evil media' even though they are not very good. Goes on in a lot of other sports as well, including golf. You can't film practice rounds of a golf event on the PGA Tour without consent. Lots of copyright issues. One blog writer thought she could skirt the rules on Tour and got her media credentials revoked after she continually filmed practice rounds on Periscope.

I agree. The only thing unusual about it is the timing. If it had happened last year during the 12-4, there wouldn't be near the level of snark.

What probably happened was that somebody started to piece together that you essentially have copyright that you can sell to the local TV affiliates and ESPN that they would be willing to purchase it if they knew that not anybody with a blog could post that content.

What's weird about it to me is that it took so long. I think Periscope is probably causing these changes.

This is probably exactly what it is. Its not like Broaddus and Helman don't do 20-30 minute videos of practices during TC. They probably just want to cash in.

Good. Tired of the media causing issues based on what they see behind the curtain so to speak.

Seems the Cowboys are not the trendsetters folks think they are..

It’s assumed that this is partially in response to a recent spat between Cowboys WR Dez Bryant and a reporter, which turned into a meltdown involving players, reporters and team staff.

The rules are actually very similar to the kind of policies teams such as the Commanders and Bears have put in place during the preseason. In theory, they protect the team from having their strategies broadcast. But considering any fan in the stands can tweet or share anything they want, what’s the difference?

We’ll have to see how this affects beat reporters and media members accustom to being able to do their job in Dallas just as they would anywhere else in the NFL. The media and sports franchises are always going to be in a battle of wills considering how much the latter would prefer to control the message compared to what the former provides, and the Cowboys seem to be betting they can put a tighter lid on that process.

They have been exposed and embarrassed. This is a (poor) attempt to control the message. Can't have people seeing Dez yell at people in the locker room while the head coach does nothing.
