I don't see Dallas drafting a G in the 1st round, if they signed Slauson.

I don't see the cowboys drafting a guard in round 1, even if they have not brought one in via free agency by the time of the draft.

I am not saying it is or is not the right thing to do, but it is clear they do not see value in drafting a guard in the first round.

I think they have done it once since their inception.

I see the problems with the OL and hope they address it, but the Cowboys do not draft guards in the first round.

In 2010, Mike Iupati was one of three players the Cowboys targeted in the 1st round.

I think people make assumptions on things that aren't always true. The Cowboys didn't see the value in selecting an OT in the first round.....until they did with Tyron Smith in 2011. They didn't see the value in selecting a RB in the first....until they did with Felix Jones in 2008. I'd chalk the OG thing up to more of the same.

Maybe, but history is a pretty good indicator of what might happen in the future and drafting 1 guard in in the 1st in 51 years is a pretty good indicator that they don't see the value in that position in the first round.

They can target all the want, but they don't pull the trigger on guards in round 1.

then who do you suggest we draft?

Lets just eliminate all the positions we do not need to draft that high this year if at all: QB, WR, RB, CB, TE, DE (to a degree because we do have spencer and Ware)

ok now who is left:

Safety, yeah I can see that, it is a genuine and important need, especially with Sensebaugh gone

DLineman? normally that would be ok, but for us - an off. guard is much more important need this year

I think anywhere on the line is needed with maybe the Tackle spot being the least needed of the 5 spots due to having T Smith and possible emergence of Parnell.

he is another one infected with the Jerruh disease: Only 'shiny toys' in the first round. Nobody that will make that critical block on third and goal that wins a game now and then. Or stones the pass rusher that allows the QB to hit the WR with the game winning TD.

Actually,...like I said long ago, signing Slauson would make a ton of sense. Not only do we desperately need interior lineman, he knows Callahans system from playing under him at the New York Jets. Not only that, Callahan coached and recruited him when the two were at Nebraska.

Long history there.

And the above facts may just give us an inside edge !

Slauson was the 31st rated guard per PFF.

For the sake of comparison, do you know where Bernadeau and Livings were rated off hand? This might provide some perspective.

Livings was much higher, like 15 or so.

I would like slauson but shouldn't stop us from still drafting OG. I still dont understand why jerry hasnt went after Winston yet. I would be happy with Slauson to cokpete woth livings and a draft pick and Winston at RT.

Eh, I'd say if we sign Slauson, we shouldn't draft an OG in the first.

if we sign slauson it will be cheap, he isn't that good and it isnt a long term deal and neither is livings. If Cooper or Warmack is there at 18 they will be BPA and I say go and get either of them.

Eh, both Livings and Slauson are perfectly adequate, and IMO we shouldn't burn a Top 20 pick on a guard when we have two perfectly capable guards on the roster. Fans tend to overrate the value of guards, and it's always baffled me why.

I don't think Slauson is any better than Livings and Bern, but he does know Callahan's system and has some nasty too him.

That would make him middle of the pack then as there are 64 starting guards in the NFL. Probably better then any guard we currently have on the roster.

In all seriousness, he's a pretty decent guard. No pro bowler but quite solid. A bigger/stronger version of Kosier.

I'd rather go after Brian Waters. He is a pro bowler and much better than Slauson, even if he can only play for a couple more seasons. He's likely to be cheaper as well, since he has restricted himself to teams that play in Texas.

Cowboys not only need to improve the OL play but add some leadership to that unit as well.

According to whose board would they be BPA?? Yours or some internet gurus board??

I want the BPA according to the cowboys board period, cause they have far more info on these guys than we do or some internet Kiper idiot does.
