Not crazy about Ball starting but I think he will. I think doing massive shuffle of the OL could weaken the entire unit. I would prefer to get a vet in here but should that not happen I think it will fall to Josh Ball to do the job

In theory the next guy on the depth chart should start, true; however, should we try to win, Josh Ball should not start on any NFL team

They were likley prepping Ball to be the swing tackle. The role of the swing is to spell an injured tackle in-game. It's not uncommon for the swing to not be the perm solution in case someone goes all the way down. They've been prepping Smith to play guard, but now that the full season plans have change, they may do the same. It COULD make more sense for Tyler to start at Tackle and leave ball as the swing option in game, if McGovern is the better option at guard right now.

It is most unfortunate that in all likelihood, Ball will be our starting LT when the season starts. I assume, Tyler Smith will eventually occupy the LT position at some point, but as a rookie, I just don't think he's ready. Unless the coaches believe in "baptism by fire!!". o_O

I think they HAVE to sign someone. The only tackles remaining are Steele, Waletzko and Ball (I'm not including Alarcon or Aliante Collins or Amon Simon because I'm certain these are camp bodies). Waletzko was a project player before his shoulder bummed out.

I'd just be surprised if they don't sign SOMEONE.

I agree it would be different if Tyler was working out as a tackle but he has been, his time has been a LG

If we don’t sing anybody, I’m imagine Smith is at LT and McGovern is at LG. No chance Ball is the starter

I don't disagree. Before people were concerned with swing tackle, hell I'm worried about starting T. I think it would be a foolish risk to expect Ball or Waeteko to take over starters role before they are ready
