*LOS/dr* = 22.73 yd line

Weeden deserves some blame but this Beasley experiment isn't working. Harris hasn't been properly replaced. Also, the excuses have to stop for this secondary. When was the last time one of them made an athletic-arms stretched play on a ball? Being tied for 2nd to last in turnovers has a lot to with this too.

The Cowboys did nothing to address the return game in the offseason.

It wouldn't have been as a big deal if Romo hadn't gone down, however, now that the team is fighting for it's life each and every game, the 20-40 yards/game delta between a team with an 'average' return game vs one like the Cowboys with a poor return game just amplify other problems/issues.

Another testament to our great HC who believes in "all 3 phases of the game "

I still think they had a decent offseason, buy two little things (the backup qb position and the returner/4th receiver position) they didn't address are blowing up in our face right now.

Is this on JG? If anyone is to blame it's the front-office. It's their job to ensure all three aspects (offense, defense, and ST) of the team are adequately staffed.

Agreed.

It's just so hard in the modern salary cap era to address ALL the weaknesses on a team. Every team has weaknesses, however, elite QB play masks a lot of problems.

Cowboys lost that went Romo went down. All those other, seemingly minor'ish warts, are now front and center.

They brought in, what 4 or 5 FA WR's thinking one would pan out...well unless Whitehead makes a dramatic improvement, they will be batting zero....still...
Heck, they did not even get a WR out of it either.

An immediate help, which requires no change in personnel, would be for the return man to STAY IN THE END ZONE WHEN THE BALL IS 8 OR 9 YARDS DEEP!!! That drives me nuts. We don't have Billy "White Shoes" Johnson or Devin Hester (in their primes) on our roster. These guys need to use a little common sense on judging when to take the ball out. I guess that's asking a little too much. Getting the ball on the 20 isn't great, but it beats the hell out of the 12 or 13 yard line.

We haven't done anything to address our return game in TWO years; it sucked last year as well. I don't know why everyone is forgetting that.

I think they were smart not to resign Harris. Even if Harris plays well with the Giants, I think that was the smart move. Although it doesn't appear they filled that spot either. Beasely hasn't dropped a ball but he looks to be no threat in the return game.

My guess is they lead the league in offensive three and outs also. Add the two together and your opponent has a big advantage in field position.

All he does is makes fair catches but I guess that's better than getting hurt.

There is no such thing as a return game in the NFL anymore. Our consistently crappy field position has to do with the fact that our defense can't force 3 and outs or cause turnovers and our offense can't consistently sustain drives.

Also doesnt help when our returners wanna be idiots and run the ball out when theyre 8 yards deep in the endzone.

I'm not saying we should have given Harris what the Giants threw his way, but......

Harris was 4th in the league in punt return average last year for players with more than just a couple of attempts.
He was 3rd if you take all players who had 15 or more attempts.

He was also 13th in KO return average--which a was a drop-off from the previous year.
And, of course, he was one of the top gunners in the league as well.

He is missed.
