That will have to change starting this weekend. Teams respected Romo and his ability to hit the big play. Weeden is known for being rattled if his first or second read is not there, so defenses will start crowding the LOC to cut off those routes and dare him to beat them with his arm.

That TD pass to Williams was a good start.

He talks about how he feels about his arm. He also talks about the mindset this year coming in for 7 games instead of just 1 last year. Actually said last year, since he knew it was going to be just a week, that he didn't want to step on anyone's toes so he was more timid (stupid excuse but it seems to matter to the guy). Says he is embracing the leadership role and is ready to be more forceful and verbal. Talks about his tendencies and his growth. Its a good interview actually.

Yes, I think the reason for the short pass game is Linehan calling plays to use the short pass game for time of possession and long extended drives to replicate what they did with Murray last year until the new guys get going.

They were primarily running the ball and throwing short against that Giants team the whole first half with Romo and Bryant in there. Really didnt let romo rip it until the team was down due to turnovers. But if those TO's dont happen its clear they wanted to play conservative on offense - probably to help this defense until some defensive players get back.

Against the eagles on the road in a hostile environment i think the plan was the same - keep their offense off the field and keep our defense rested. The only long passes Romo threw were to dunbar.

So, i think the lack of big pass plays was by design and not due to anything related to Romo's arm or question of deep threats.

This week i think the run game gets going and we will see some deeper throws off play action.

I think Cowboys will have to take their shots down field. Defense study tape they see what the Cowboys are doing and unless they take some shot DB will start creeping up to jump those shorter passes. Weeden has the arm to get it down the field.

I think you missed his point. He knew he wasn't "the man" while only replacing Tony for the one game, so to go in there and act as though he were would have only made his teammates look at him sideways. He knew his role on the team and reacted accordingly. As for keeping the team out of the NFC Championship, not quite sure where you get that. If you're blaming the AZ loss on him, you should be looking at the entire team, as well, for that particular game. Nobody played well, and AZ was damn good. Dean Blandino is who kept the Cowboys out of the NFCC game, not Brandon Weeden.

The opponent matters.
Dallas will take some deep shots going forward. I seriously doubt we see two deep safeties all the time going forward with Weeden. Teams will want to stop the run. Weeden will burn someone deep, maybe even this week.
