I get how PUP works, but when you are suspended, you don't get paid for those games, so if it works the way you suggest, the he's being punished once, for 2 failed test.

The punishment is the 1st failed teat, you play but do not get paid. The 2nd failed test you do not get to play, nor paid.
This punishes the team as well as the player, as many who climbed to love the game can't play.
Only 4 games involved concurrently.

I would guess if on PUP you get paid, but in his case, he would not.
Just as if on IR you get paid, and it counts against the cap. But since he is suspended, 4 of those games if on Pup would not go against the cap.

How does the NFL convince players to play in games without being paid? That doesn't sound legal.

Yea, so player A test positive and misses 4 games pay. Player B test positive and misses 4 games pay as well. However, player B test positive again at near the end of his 4 games of not getting paid, then is suspended 4 games (which he does not get paid). Get what I'm saying? Maybe McClain benefits from them being within a week or so of each other, but had they been spread out he clearly would have not gotten paid for 8.

I don't think so. He got popped once during the offseason and would miss 4 game checks, but would not be suspended. Then he got popped again, which caused him to get suspended, thus 4 game suspension (which means he misses 4 game checks) and 4 games fine.

I know it doesn't sound right, but the nflpa got the (cba) deal that way. It's already been reported by the team site.

I was one of the biggest Ro fans last year.

He brought an attitude and talent we have not have had here for years..

Having said that..we have a healthy Lee now..hopefully

Hitchens Gachkar ,Brinkley,Smith etc..etc.

The additions of Randy and Hardy will lessen the blow of not having RO anymore.

We are going to wreak havoc this year with or without him.

If he wants to be a part of a Superbowl run..then by all means ...i will welcome him back.

I don't think he'll play another down, for the Cowboys at least.

Time will tell in short order, if he continues to violate the substance abuse policy, he definitely will not be coming back ever.

I think they have dealt with the guy, knowing the issues but eventually if he can not even do the base level stuff to play the game, you eventually move along.

I saw we part ways with RoMac. He's too much of a liability and wants to play but not put in the work. I'd trade him or just straight up cut him, then we draft a LB first round next year.

I see no reason for using the PUP list unless he, for some reason, won't be physically capable until that point. Even if they played him in game 7, he would have 3 weeks less of practice than he would if he wasn't on the PUP. Jerry said he'd be physically ready by week 1. If he wasn't lying, then the PUP is a stupid option IMO. This is especially true considering when our bye week is.

This is Ro's last stop.
If he can't get off the drugs, he won't play anymore.
But if he can, the Cowboys will be patient with him.
He's too much of a playmaker. He is Ray Lewis but with all the extra baggage.

The only reason I can think of that they use the PUP list. Unless he truly is not ready to play.
That gives them 2 more weeks, from the 4 games to 6 weeks, and I believe actually up to 8 weeks. To see how the LB group is playing, and if the rest of the defense is playing great. Then they can decide if he will really help them, and if he would be worth having the rest of the year.

Now, I truly doubt this is the case, as you can never have enough talented players on your roster. Even with a few headaches. I don't usually go for these type of theories. But one can't deny it may happen at times.
Maye they want him 100% for sure for a playoff push.

I think the coaches are happy with what they have at LB right now, but its good business to hang on to Ro without wasting a roster spot in case Lee goes down later in the season.

McClain is a very talented guy. Potential All-Pro talent. But it seems like he doesn't love the game enough to stay off the drugs. I don't like how he rehabbed his knee in the offseason. He should have been rehabbing in Dallas, not Alabama. I think that set him back to the point that he will likely be on the PUP list to start the season.

Love the talent, but you can't rely on him. Same with Sean Lee, but for different reasons.

I look at anything Ro McClain does as a bonus.

Personally, I don't think he'll be back. He'll sit on his but for a month, show up fat and out of shape, complain about his knee again, and he'll be done here.
