Cowboys lingering problem on defense is still their pass rush

It’s going to be interesting and hopefully fun watching it unfold . Definitely has most everyone’s attention up.

And if it’s as good as some are billing will offense maybe be a little less not needing to do as much to overcome .

With a more favorable schedule to open up there is certainly an opportunity to build the hype up like we did a few years ago when we started 3-0 and were SB bound .

It’s just very difficult for me after 3 decades regardless whatever might be different to get too excited. It’s been so long not sure I’d recall how to act if we finally broke thru to a championship.

But since you haven’t seen it coming for as many years as we’ve been here on these forums I certainly hold your analysis high regards and has me a little more enthusiastic than normal.

I can’t help but look for red flags and caution signs like the report I read on pass rush. I hope your instincts are right K!!

The O worries me more than the D.

I don't know as I've ever seen a complete makeover like this on D.

Bottom line is he has the traits you mentioned, but he's still not making many plays.

The defensive coaches saw fit to bring him back because they felt they could unlock his potential.

Some figured that CP could resurrect him, but i don't see any evidence of it on the field.

Granted we don't see what the coaches see during training camp( practice, scrimmages and whatnot). I just don't see the development.
He's basically the same guy.

We can all see the new additions (some proven and some not) as well as a 1st time DC and draw some inferences, but until we see it in action its all speculation....which is fine and is why we have this site.

I should also point out that with all the new additions and coaches, I will give them time to jel and actually become cohesive.

Its one of the reasons I was pleased them not give away any capital for Crosby....lets see where the actual area of need will be when the defense is being executed to its fullest

So despite all the optimism towards a defense which has obviously been upgraded on many fronts this remains a major concern which could thwart an improved roster on defense and top 5 offense from making the playoffs.

How can you identify an existing problem when they haven't even put there starters on the field?

Q Williams and Gary each had last season and have averaged over 50 pressures a season during their careers.
Clark had 45.
Eze is due for a 2nd year jump.

Will the Cowboys? It’s an unknown at this point and reason for concern.

Barham ain't no joke and can play EDGE at times. He's a bigger linebacker with power to speed I've not seen in a long time. He's a pure nasty football player and does it all well.

I want to see him used a decent amount in blitzing….want to see Overshown do it too since he got in the backfield quick in 2024 when he did blitz. With a 3-4, maybe we can change up from where they rush and use all their speed and confuse the O. Might as well.

How do we know about this year's pass rush?

I saw one of the local media guys say that he owed Eze an apology because Eze has been drastically better in camp than the media guy had predicted/anticipated.

I think the Von Miller signing was a way for Jerry to make a splash on the cheap.
- Miller actively campaigned for the job because he lives in the area.

I think that Parker wants to generate pass rush in multiple ways and not just depend on Edge rushers.
- I think it's a trend that we'll see more of in the next few years.

For example, Barham at ILB.
- Some teams and some draft media projected him as an Edge rusher.
- With Parker's base 3-4 scheme, the Edge rusher are trained for dropping into coverage.
- This allows Parker to drop an OLB and rush and ILB.

Some of the Safeties are known to be good at blitzing.
- Downs had success with it in college.

Overshown is considered a good blitzing off-ball LB.

Contract to a past player like Sean Lee.
- He was a great off-ball LB when healthy, but wasn't a natural blitzer.

What has Sam Williams actually shown in camp or these games? Can anyone say? Are we shopping him? He looks like a jag. Nothing he does pops. He's another cut or trade.

He pretty much does the same thing every game from what I seen from last year to the preseason. He engages with whoever is assigned to block him and just stands there. Hes like a bottle cap or navel lint in this defense, that means nothing and a no show. Cut this guy and don't look back + zero trade value. Yawn......
