Cowboys losing Ground? For the Record . reinforces how 2016 was a missed opportunity ***MERGED***

If we're as good as we think we are, we'll find a way back to where we were last season.
 
I'm excited to see the defense finally addressed. Last years draft was a huge boon to this organization's changes for the next decade. We'd be crazy not to enjoy the ride.

Getting worked up over the first week of free agency after the last several years is pure silliness. There's a long way to go yet. Act like you've seen an NFL offseason before, guys. This isn't anything new or unusual.
 
I'm not panicking over the Cowboys tepid Free-agency maneuvers.
But, while other teams were trying to sure up their weak spots and improve their strong spots, we may have weakened our weak spot, Defense, and also weakened our strong spot, Offense.
At best, it seems that we are holding pat and hoping that we can replicate last years success.
The players we signed in FA on defense aren't great improvements over their predecessors, but are just replacements with the hope that they can basically provide the same production.
In addition, there hasn't been anything that has happened to think that the Defense Achilles heal, Pass Rush DE, has been addressed/improved.
On offense, losing Leary and Free is not anything to brush over and could effect the chances of the offense repeating last year's success. Collins is still not proven and Green hasn't shown he can be relied on as a replacement at RT.
Many of he top NFC teams last year, e.g. Packers, Seahawks, Giants, Arizona, had injury issues last year that hindered their chances but if they address them and have some luck on the injury front, they can be in good position to have greater success.
There's no reason to panic at this point but it's obvious that it will be a tough task for this team to replicate last years success. Not impossible, but it will be a tough task.

Yes we have taken a step back. This will be a transition year as we clear salaries and players off the team. With a first place schedule, I would not expect more than 8-8. We simply do not have a playoff defense and the draft is not going to save it.
 
Lets see what happens. Honestly. even if its a throw away year, like what was the last 20 plus years? Its just going to be the norm. Someone else thinks they have a new plan only to find out, its the same ol plan.

So far this FO told the fans "yes we know we are so close, so our plan is to go back even further. Bet ya ll didint see that coming".

As i stated tho, lets just give it a chance. The rah rah crew will be here to tell you how brilliant it is and nothing is going to change anyones mind who has really enjoyed these 20 years.

What ground did we really lose those? No team in the NFC east can run the ball. At least not even in the same realm as us. Eagles havent fixed their secondary issues, at all, the Giants are losing their best run stopper, added another piece too offense, which is fine, but that locker room is in for a rude awakening with Marshall and Beckham JR on the same team. Not to mention, their OL is a disaster. Really i feel like with a good draft we are right back there or even better next season. Not 13-3 but definitely the team to beat in the East

We lost because our D is worse and we have a very low draft pick.

Now if you say we can draft guys, well, so can they and they have higher picks.
 
Obviously it's a tough task to win the division/go 13-3, even if we kept our average guys on defense.

The only "new" weakness is RT, but hell, almost everyone hated Free on here and eventually we needed to find his replacement.

Defensively, we lost some average guys, 3 out of the 4 we still could re-sign.

I don't get the worry so early on.

Not like we are good at finding talent in FA.

Judging from how Philly and NY has drafted lately, im really not to worried. If the Giants decide to actually fix their OL and Philly actually fixes their real issues instead of winning the offseason ill be a little more worried. I didnt realize losing Jack freaking Crawford meant we are going 0-16 next year because the Eagles brought in a WR who cant stay healthy and is a PED violation away from a year suspension, and a guy who hasnt done anything in the past 3 years would end our chances. We just shouldnt even play. Screw it
 
All I know is that as it stands today, we are not a better team than the one that walked off the field after losing to GB. Maybe we are the same if you are going to factor in things like some guys being healthy in 2017, youngsters like Brown getting better, etc. but we certainly are not better, that's for sure.

I think that's what is disappointing. It seems the front office is basically putting any improvement on the 2016 team on them drafting studs again that make impacts as rookies. As I said in another thread, that's risky.
 
When we have the worst cap situation in the entire league, it may tell you who's running the ship.

When the Patriots win the Super Bowl, and still have more than $30 mil available ... that may tell you who's running the ship.

It's sad.

New England. Again and again.

I agree that just rummaging through free agency doesn't fix a bad team. It usually leads to nothing. However, for the "win-now teams" like Dallas, a key free agent acquisition or two can be the difference.

Too many holes to fill with just 4-5 meaningful draft picks. They'd better get to work.

Losing Leary hurt. Losing both Church and Wilcox hurt. Paea is a downgrade from McClain. Adding nothing on the edge is concerning.

It's still only March, but right now, this looks like 8-8 all day. Let's see what happens.
